So i have been hearing alot of people saying they never get their Dog wet???
That makes me nervous because i ride so much and Im anal about keeping my bike clean.... Is this going to be a problem for me???? If i want to wash all the time?? One of the big reasons i have been debating buying one is all the polished aluminum... I hate it... I would rather have chrome its easier to take care of.... So if i get a Dog. Im gonna ride it hard... am i gonna have issues with washing or getting it wet... I seen some article they were talkin about putting bags and tape before washing??? That sounds rediculous to me... if i pay this much im gonna have to use plastic grocery bags to keep parts of the bike dry??? can some one educate me a bit here... thx  :hi:

Buy the Dog, everybody has a Harley. I've had both, pride of ownership isn't even close.

for me, a bike that cannot get wet is a joke - having said that my Dog has got plenty wet and I've not had a problem - look at the shrink wrap thread and such - there are steps you can take to water proof the bike

I flipped my plate tonight and put a bead of clear silicone on when I screwed the light cover back on - you can do that sort of thing easy enough if you're worried about it

Most of us have had Harleys and some of those still do.

I have not rode my HD since buying the dog. Want another chromed out Harley, I will sell you one.

Untill you have a Big Dog you will always think the Harley is better, as we did.

All bikes have things ya gotta look out for and the Dog has it's share.

The Dawg is a great machine and you will take great pride in doing whatever it takes to keep her looking fine.
AND the ONLY regret you will have is "why did I not do this sooner"?

My Big Dog rides better than my HD, I can go 500 miles a day and look fwd to many more, and these bikes are Art.

Just pull the trigger.

Read what I said about the differences between BDM and HD. If you can't handle it... then you better buy another harley and go back to blending in like house's buddy jason. (inside joke) Cause I don't care how much kury chrome you have bolted on a harley.. when a dog rolls up... that harley don't even exist. i'm not trying to be an ass... just speaking how it is from this side of the coin.

As far as the polished metal. That sucks the worse. Even if you do wash the bike and didn't have problems with that, you would have to polish it when you're done. That takes the most time. Chrome is the fix... no problem... take it all apart and spend about $3500 (not including rims) and its a simple windex and wipe job.

further, you can do things to it such as shrink wrapping the wires and spraying the circuit boards with "sealant" to help water proof the dog. But its still not going to be a HD of today or one of the jap bikes in THIS dept of ideas.

Cosmetic is the trade off here as I said in the other thread. Read up on the other brands, they all have very similar problems. but I will garauntee you this... NO... I repeat NO other motorcycle company will back their product like BDM. PERIOD!

Good call Lee.. but not hardly... i usually clean hers more than she does mine... but I can't bitch... we all remember this...

:whoop:

Tmack... it can be done... no worries... we have the technology and ways around it. Ride hard, but don't ride in the rain. Then you will only need to polish like 3-4 times a year. Then its just california duster, detail spray... using diapers... simple.

I was in Daytona for bike week and got caught in torential rain for about 50 miles......bike was dirty as hell - but it survived and ran great this past weekend ("touch fake wood desk" - thanks Gas).....

For me, I'd rather have a wet dog over a dry harley any day...JMHO

Don't let anyone tell you differently (CLEANING BILLET SUCKS!). However, it last forever doesn't chip and peel like chrome and looks pretty damn good when polished. You just need to study up a little on the best polishes and cleaners that are out there. As far as getting your bike wet, I laugh at the wimps that run from the ran, isn't fun to clean afterwards but that doesn't change with any bike. Don't be afraid the Big Dog is the way to go, an average Big Dog will turn more heads than a beautiful Harley. Nothing against Harleys I think they are great machines, but they are not a Big Dog. Good Luck!!!

Whew! Thank you for saying that, Lee! It is ridiculous to say that you can't get a Big Dog wet!

My God, you guys, what do you do when you get caught in a rain storm???

I washed my bike w/ a power washer 20 times last summer, No problems. Just don't get the wiring & speedo wet

I wash my Chopper with a hose and drown it with water. I just don't flood the wiring harness. Doing that can lead to corrosion, if the connectors are not blown completely dry. That's true of any cycle, auto or any electronic gear.

When I wash the chopper, I leave the seat on to protect the harness and electronics. When I'm done, I remove the seat and dry anything that may have received a ricochet spray.

I've had no problems with connectors or wiring or corrosion, since I bought the bike in Feb, 2007. I'm not sure what the previous owners did.
