I am looking for a sissy bar and luggage rack for my 2000 Prosport. I am told there was one produced for this bike but it must have been specific for this model bike. If some one has one or any ideas of one that might fit please let me know. I will be out playing in the sand box.

Oh man, Frank, very rare I am afraid. The rig that BD manufactured for our bikes was patent applied for and mounted to a quick release stud that received both the quick release saddle bags and the backrest. The setup was later nearly copied by HD for a quick-release softail backrest.

I can photograph the set up for you. Need to dig my backrest out of a storage box. Only use it these days for cross-country t-bag. The wife rides her own so I don't have a passenger.

Thanks for the reply Rick. I would love to have a pic or two. I have seen that rig on Harley's and have measured a few of them but they all too narrow.

If yours is ever looking for a new home there is always one here in OHio.

Thanks again

Buy the way, gas tank sealing job is finished. Ruined the less than one year old paint though. The painter was mad as hell but he matched the metal flake , candy color and clear cote perfectly. I am very happy with it.

Congrats on getting the tank seal behind you. I am still rolling the dice. Can't decide what I would do with paint once I commit.

Frank, I mounted my backrest and luggage rack this past week for the TN ride (dug it out of storage). Tonight I power washed 2300 miles of grime off the bike and attempted to photograph the critical parts of the mounting system. This is what the mounting bracket on a set of BD saddlebags looks like.FullSizeRender.jpg

The bracket you see mounts to a pair of studs that through-bolt to the fender strut. The studs have a double groove. One is for the saddlebags. The other is for the removable backrest (next photo).FullSizeRender.jpg

Over the years I have seen both the bags and the backrest offered for sale. As you can see, they are completely dependent upon the mounting studs. With time ( over 15 years) my original studs wore out. The groove is made up of a plastic bushing that wears with time. Six years ago, I was successful at ordering them through the then temporary parts supplier once we identified an OEM part number. That may still be possible through Parts King. I do not know. This last pic is of the spreader bar that holds the bottom of the bags in the correct position. And another of the whole backrest assembly. Very sturdy. My saddlebags are aftermarket with the original mounting brackets from BD used.FullSizeRender.jpg

Thanks Rick. I found a set on a bike for sale in Flordia. Origional bags and all but I have to buy the whole bike to get them. He won't sell them separate. I think I am going to have Ginz Choppers build me a custom back rest and luggage rack. Much less expensive. Thanks again.
