Vulcan Dual Coil ??????

Just ordered the Vulcan Dual Coil set up. I found the wiring diagram here on the forum..
Question..Why/Do I have to attach a power wire from ignition switch?
Cant I just use the 3 wires BDM has and a jumper like the diagram?

I just dont understand the wire to ignition switch..I have moved my switch and it is nowhere near the coils..

yellow to front
blue to rear

and remainder to center w/jumper wire ???

I would assume that when I turn the ignition on it gives power to the ignition module at the module and not at the coils. I would also assume the diagram is generic and not just for BDM and thats why it shows the switch giving power to the ignition module..

So did I answer my own question?

It's one or the other depending on if you have an electronic ignition or not. We do, so you run the hot wire to the electronic ignition and DO NOT run the wire to the ignition switch.

If you didn't have an electronic ignition you would have to run the power wire to an ignition switch or kill switch.

That diagram is as clear as mud...

Assuming your ignition system is stock, you don't! As a matter of fact there isn't any power at the ignition switch, only a ground.

Yes. Think of the red wire coming from the ignition module as the equivalent of a hot wire coming from the ignition switch.

If it's still the stock wiring, no worries!

Respectfully, it doesn't make any difference whether you have electronic ignition or use points. It's all a matter of how the bike is wired. That'll determine what source your coil is going to get 12VDC from.

True, true... Just keep in mind on our motorcycles, if you have STOCK wiring, you cannot use power from the ignition switch as it is only a 5 volt circuit...

Single fire but that has nothing to do with having a "single coil pack"! Single fire means each spark plug fires independent of the other. Dual fire means both spark plugs fire at the same time. The coil on the dog actually has 4 coils inside, two primary (low voltage) and two secondary (high voltage to the spark plugs).

and how many ohm ?

I'm thinking they're 3 to 5 ohm coils.

I just bought this setup,wired it in just like the diagram shows up above.....bike cranks but no start.......Ahhhhh WTF did I do wrong....I just noticed I DO NOT have the jumper lead from the ignition switch jumped to the Ignition module.......ahhhhh shit,think I just answered my own question........what wire on the ignition module do I jump it 2...

Danny, I dont think you need to jumper from ignition sw. to module.
Maybe check that you have the trigger wires correct

you were right Ringo:up:.....Raywood called me...My bike is a 2004,wired totally different than the diagram listed on here:bang::bang:..........Think I got it now,just gotta get some ring terminals tomorrow from the parts store and solder in my connections.........Thanks for your guys help man.....Sooooooooooo Frustrating:bang::angry::bang:.....
