voltage regulator

Does anybody out there know if Big Dog has had a recall on its Voltage Regulator?

The Story:

Last week I was riding my bike (2008 Pitbull, very low miles) I was about 2 miles away from the house and the F*#@er caught on fire. I ran a red light and pulled off to the side of the road. cut the engine off and the gas and started to piss on my voltage regulator before the fire spread anywhere else. the road that i pulled off on is a busy one so someone saw me doing this. about 30 mins went by trying to get a tow truck and a cop stops by to give me a ticket for indicent exposure. In the state of HI that could potentially make you a sex offender. I eventually talked the cop out of the ticket. i think it might of been because he was a Dog owner himself and he could feel my pain. Bike is all good and running already but I paid for all the work and parts. so was wondering if anybody had heard of a recall. My mechanic showed me on the web of 1000's of issues with the regulator.

Don't know of a recall but had to replace the one on my 08 as well last year. Easy job to do. V

there was a recall on the voltage regulators on the '05/'06/early '07 but nothing, that i am aware of on the late '07 and newer. the one mentioned previously was in that recall if i remember right. it happened in daytona at one of the rallies.

My VR did the same thing but the fire was small and went right out. Stayed contained to the VR and a few inches of the wire going into it. Had the main fuse not toasted I think it would've been much worse.

I had to repace the VR on my 08 Mutt. It was still under warranty and they wanted me to bring the bike in for repair. I live 150 miles from the dealer so I just bought one and replaced it myself. At least it didn't start on fire, just quit working.

I just replaced mine on my 08 k9, Harley part straight in. Ensure you run an earth to somewhere on your motor as well. very simple to fit, also check some idiot has not wired it direct to your battery. Ensure it goes via the circuit breaker.
Good luck
