Voltage readings while on battery tender

My 40 watt fuse finally broke (not popped) from age. I didnt know this until I got home (after a few jumpstarts) along the way. Now that its been on the battery tender overnight, my little voltage display I attached to the battery shows 14.1 while charging and 12.6 when disconnected. I dont remember it ever going that high during the chargings of other batteries Ive put in the bike. Theres no extra heat on the battery or the cables. Is this 14.1 something I should be concerned with?

My experience on 2004 Chopper:

from another thread by me...

d) rode home, checked voltages:
on same New Battery: 13.5 while on charger, 13.1 off charger; 12.5 dip at startup cranking; started engine --running it charges immediately to 14.2 volts, seems OK- normal.

Checked ignition wire 12.1 volts. OK-normal
and Low beam wire 12.1 volts. OK-normal

This "thread quote" and voltage readings are from about 2 years ago prior to replacing my EHC and after replacement -- all voltages still the same today. So for my bike, everything is fine and working excellant.

Your voltages don't sound that far off..
We may differ due to: meters, batteries and chargers, etc...

Check the battery first; they tend go bad fast on Big Dogs...
You can take your battery to an Auto Parts store (Pep Boys, Autozone) and have it checked for free.

Most batteries on Big Dogs go about 1 to 4 years depending...
I have a Tomioka (similar to Braille) has always been slightly higher voltage and CCA than generic brand X; but well worth the extra few bucks!

Fat Bastard, thank you for your info. Here are my numbers. Im sure I could get a better reading if the bike was on the ground.
On tender 12.7,
turned key on, not cranking 12.4
while idling 12.3 (would increase slightly, but didnt want to rev too high as bike was on the stand)
after turned off 12.5

This on a brand new HD sofftail battery. It seems to hang up when I first press the slam button, and the negative cable gets hot, but doesnt turn red.

I'd say your starter is getting weak and drawing more power. I'd also check the fluid in your battery if it's not a gel one. 12.4 is a little low for a new battery.

Thank you. Im having a friend of mine from church clean out my starters and see whats going on. Hopefully this resolves the starting issue.
