Vintage running strong AZ to WI

Just finished the ride from Phoenix to Beloit, WI yesterday afternoon. Had some interesting days of 40 mph cross-winds but missed the craziness by cutting north from NM across the NW corner of KS into NE and used the Lincoln Hwy (US 30). It was a great ride. Best part was the performance of my 107 re-bored to 111" with stock super G and stock 2 into 1 V&H. I was able to go down and cap off the first 3000 miles on the re-build in AZ with a good hot stop & go in the desert attending the Renaissance Fair (10 miles of back-up traffic getting into the fair). That really settled her in and loosened her up. It was clear she wanted some back pressure so I ordered the stock baffle and drilled a 1" diameter hole in the end cap of the baffle, installed and immediately she smoothed out. No time to worry about re-jetting or dyno - just took off for Wisconsin. I never got less than 45mph and a couple times topped 55 mph - amazing. Never in 13 years have I gotten that kind of mileage without running lean. No signs of lean sneezing. I was able to get adjusted to the mods, the new riding position, all good. I believe my hope for another 10 years of riding this baby is well-founded.

Sounds like a awsome road trip. Unfortunately my wife's idea of camping is motel 6.

I am thankful every day that my life's companion shares everything I love with me. I do not ever take that for granted. She is the best. We did have a pretty comfy stopover in Ames, NE under the shadow of huge supercel that rained and hailed on the parking lot while we enjoyed a glass of merlot in the Hilton Garden Inn hot tub - yeah biker haven it was.

Don't get me wrong, mines a real trooper, we're headed for Council Bluffs, IA this weekend. There is a 50% chance of rain, with temps in the low 60's to low 70's. She'll ride with no complants. We share in each others pleasures, she rides her own bike, I had to learn to dance.
