Angry Southern White Man
After feeling a vibration that was getting worse and a clutch that was getting harder to find neutral, I tore into my tranny thinking it was the main bearings. First, I pulled the exhaust side all off to get to the main seal and inspect the bearing. The seal was leaking a little but the bearing looked perfect and there was no play in the shaft at all. I replaced the main seal and quad seal and put that side all back together. Next, I moved over to the primary side and pulled the primary all apart thinking that the clutch hub nut had started to come loose. There was a little bit of play in the clutch carrier so I did the typical torque procedure and coated the threads with red loctite. I took the bike out the next day and it seemed better and the clutch really hooked up well and neutral was very smooth and easy to find. BUT, there was still a vibration that I couldn't pinpoint. I felt like it was right under the seat but everything looked OK there. So after all this work and everything, I still have a vibration
:bang: that's making my ass go numb after 20 miles. So I get back from a possible last ride of the season(for me at least) and I take the seat off to plug in the battery tender and one of the bolts in front of the rear fender that holds the battery tray in place is sitting loose on the frame in front of the rear fender and the other bolt is loose also. So, I feel like Ray(no offense Ray) when he rebuilt his top end for a broken vent tube. Make sure you check these bolts, major vibrations like that could cause premature battery failure or worse.
