Very pleased with K&N Air filters

I have K&N filters on everything we drive and ride, the scooter. I have one that has been in my truck since 2004 and I clean it and put it back in as needed. I noticed the last time I cleaned it it was getting kinda ragged looking towards the bottom of it and I am thinking it was lifetime/100,000 miles but it is lifetime / 1,000,000 miles. I called K&N they wanted the serial number and a picture of it which I got to replace it. It still looks good on everything you can actually see installed but rough on the bottom. I got a confirmation a few minutes later that he is processing me a new filter, the upgraded one, since the one I have is discontinued. They gave me no crap at all. I was really expecting "Crap" but got none at all.

I'm with you on cleaning every service. Dirt and gravel roads are rough on these filters. Also, they will let you know when they start stopping up. I ain't buying 50,000 on a motorcycle. Maybe on a car.

I have K&N cans on my bike. I also kept the stock air cleaner in it. You should see the microns the K&N do not catch. I see them caught by the stock air cleaner that has a lot less 'pleat gap' so the grit stops and does not run lines down the cylinder walls, cause compression loss you add the lines up to cause that leak. Lines on the piston skirt... Oil the pleat gaps or see me later for an engine rebuild.

So much for praising the pleat gap. :job: NOT!

I don't have 10,000 miles on the scooter yet (2004) :D. Except for a just a few little rides around close this year, maybe 200 miles, a few rides with the Patriot Guard too, so 50,000 miles will be like forever.

Do you trailer your scooter to the end of the dirt road then saddle up ? I complain about my daughter's driveway being gravel and ride through the yard., There is a big mud hole as you enter the driveway, like a bunch of ole country hicks: eek:

My thing here is I was really surprised with the no haggle at all I got from the K&N representative because I was expecting to just have to replace the filter out of my pocket. Too many businesses want to jack you around instead of seeing you again as a return customer.

I need to borrow you a few days to get you to get the rattle out of my engine and put a different cam in it, after the top end rattling goes away.

You do bring up a very good point about the pleat gap too. That does make perfect sense about the junk getting through the filter.

Received my New K&N filter yesterday afternoon UPS. Again really, really good customer service with absolutely no haggle. :2thumbs:

Good to hear they have good service and honor their warranty, however, after reading a few tests I took all my K&N filters out of my vehicles and replaced them with paper filters. Better flow and much better filtration. They do wonders on a racing motor in rain but unfortunately they are inferior to paper filters on anything else.
