Very Cold Dog

I've had a harley for several years and never had a hard time starting it in the cold. I just got my dog in July and the past few weeks here in SC have actually been a liitle cool. The dog just does not want to start in the cold. I've done like the manual says with the two twist of the throttle and then trying to start. I try to stay away from the enricher because i read on the forum so many times about fowling plugs. Is there some trick I'm missing? Once I get it started and go for a ride it starts right back up but the next day it's the same thing.

Shhh I dont listen to the forum 100% of the time and use my enrichner to start my pup when cold (As in Below 30 Degrees). Just dont leave it on but 1/2 or a 1/4 is fine to start when cold outside. And I check my plugs and they are just fine

use you enrichner, just hold the rpm after it starts and turn enrichner 1/2 off then turn off shortly after.

make sure you are leaving it on the battery tender, that motor requires more effort then a harley.just my opinion

Wesley, all these things are good. be really careful with the enricher, but that is what it is there for. walterboro and HH aren't that far apart and that is what i do. good luck. something else that will really help is a cruise-mate, especially when warming the bike up. good to see you are still around.

another thing to do on the anal side is to depress the compression releases manually just in case they don't open all the way electrically. makes it easier on the battery. :2thumbs::2thumbs:

I also use my enrichner, but I turn it off as soon as it starts. Keep it running with the throttle until its warm.

Check the adjustment on your accelerator pump. Turn it in till it touches the pump arm (don't go beyond) and then turn it out two turns. I keep mine at about 1 1/2 turn but you can find where you like yours and set it.

Could be yours is not squirting enough fuel with your initial throttle twists.

You should mark where this and the fuel/air screw are set and write it down for future reference.
