Valve Spring Life

What kind of valve spring life can I expect with a 600 cam with the 640 springs? Do the guides hold up? Is there enough clearance around the spring to allow them to be changed without pulling the head?

If you compress the spring and remove the "keepers" or whatever those 2 small halves are called, what keeps the valve from falling into the cylinder....assuming you don't pull the head? Just curious. From what I've seen, after pulling the rocker box lids, there doesn't seem to be enough room to get under the frame and compress the spring to remove it, even if the valve does stay in place. :job: But I'll let someone with more experience give the real answer. I'm just learning myself. :loony:

I changed a set on my 05 Pit and installed the .640 springs. 12mm fitting with compressed air into the cylinder and the piston at TDC so if it did fall it would be easily retrivable. however it was a royal pain in the arze and required just about every combintaion of tools and bolt to get it done. The rear exhaust was the worst. There is a tool available from "Nub" that is designed for this but its about $280 which I think is knida expaensive for a one time deal. If some one bought one I would be willing to rent it thou.

That V knows some shit! And if I haven't told you, thanks for all your help in the past. Wouldn't it have been just as easy to remove the heads? Not trying to jack the thread. Just asking what 3 little and 1 big dog might ask. I guess with the problems I've had, I'm removing the head to fix them so it's not that big a deal anymore. :D

You would get a better job removing the heads and it would be a hell of a lot easier. But when you pull the heads you need to pull the jugs as well to replace the gasket between jug and case. And since you've got it all apart might as well get the heads set up and jugs shaved for proper compression ratio:hi:

Hmmmmmm! :loony: I guess when you say "you need to pull the jugs" doesn't necessarily mean "you have to pull the jugs". I didn't! I just pulled the one head, changed out the exhaust valve, cleaned up the inside of the head and top of the piston and put it all back together again. Maybe I just got lucky? :whoop: No leaks so far. Also changed out the cam while I had it all apart. Had some forum help to do that. :2thumbs: Runs great and purrrrs like the Dog it is!:eek::cheers:

i have about 25k on mine and the exhaust valve guides are leaking oil. can see it with the pipes off. also get some wicked spring harmonics when getting on it hard.

sounds like

CHANGE ME ALREADY!

ill pull the heads this winter and send them out

I'll just make mention of Bob Wood's PSI springs that come with a Lifetime Warranty, to the original purchaser, and DO NOT FADE.
Offers them in 160, 188, and 200 psi seat pressures.
The big 'uns handle .750 lift with .100 before coil bind.:D
