Value of my Big Dog

I agree with you BUT..... a 2009 BD is already 7 years old. If I built a NEW bike like a big dog it would have a "real" warranted S&S motor, A "real" warranted Baker trans, $25 wheel bearings instead of $5 Korean bearings, An electrical system designed like an old school Harley, controls that could be totally replaced for $150 - $250, a Spike starter, Progressive shocks, quality front end seals and top of the line stator and VR. It might cost me $18k - $22k but it would last a long, long time without breaking down. All the things I mentioned are the reason BD bikes are losing their value. They are one of the best "looking" bikes out there but the quality is lacking and we all know this if we are honest with ourselves.... The best of both worlds is to buy a rolling BD frame with tins and start there....
I own a 2011mastiff number 003 built and you couldn't buy it from me for 30,000 because it was one of the last built. However I would also pay that for a new mastiff from BDM

I'm on my 3rd chopper (still have my first one) and my current K-9 is my second BDM K-9
If someone offered me enough to replace it plus $ I might sell.
Most of us on here understand the value of the bike is in its USE not its resale or parking it to show off in the driveway.

I recently did the tail of the dragon for the 3rd time and while at the scenic lookout was talking to another chopper owner (who was on his standard harley whatever), He looks at me while we are talking and say - "Yeah saw you down at the end - Didn't think anyone would do this on a SHOW BIKE" My response was Show Bike -- go look at that thing -- its filthy from RIDING -- it ain't no show bike"

Won't trade the dog for much -- do have some design improvements I would like to see (Progressive shocks, high GVWR, bigger tank) But nothing else I've seen on the road or even concept that I'd take over a Big Dog.

It is a buyer's market as many have already said. I traded my mint 08 Mastiff 2 1/2 months ago for just under $10,000 at a local Harley dealership (low trade because it was a custom bike and had no market). It had 6500 miles on it and was always garage kept. No dings, scratches or problems with chrome. I purchased the bike 3 1/2 years ago for nearly $20,000. I may have payed too much for it then but it only had 1400 miles on it. Yesterday I stopped by to see how things were going and noticed the bike was gone. It did not sell, many wanted it but did not have the cash to purchase (no financing) and is now going to auction. Another example, I had a mint 2008 Suzuki M109R with 16,000 miles on it. It had custom exhaust, RC Component wheels, 280 rear tire etc and the best I could get for it was $7500 (everyone's rational was because it was a "Jap" bike). And the last example I had was I reconditioned (gas tank sealer, fuel pump and tune up...original paint) a 2000 Harley Road King. Added Custom 21" front wheel and 18" rear, exhaust, custom seat, bullet windshield etc. It had 18,000 miles on it. It sold for $9500. Go figure. I was proud to own the Mastiff and enjoyed riding it. I wish I could have kept it along with my new bike but do not do enough riding to warrant having both. Still proud to wear the T-Shirts and caps. Bruce
Perhaps it is time to buy another, prices are even better in some places.
