Value of my Big Dog

I just recently sold my 07 K9 and I had to sacrifice it for $8800.00. I had it at $10K for months with NO interest and I mean NO interest. Finally a guy from Texas (I'm in TN) texted me and I let it go. They are depreciating fast!
It is a buyer's market as many have already said. I traded my mint 08 Mastiff 2 1/2 months ago for just under $10,000 at a local Harley dealership (low trade because it was a custom bike and had no market). It had 6500 miles on it and was always garage kept. No dings, scratches or problems with chrome. I purchased the bike 3 1/2 years ago for nearly $20,000. I may have payed too much for it then but it only had 1400 miles on it. Yesterday I stopped by to see how things were going and noticed the bike was gone. It did not sell, many wanted it but did not have the cash to purchase (no financing) and is now going to auction. Another example, I had a mint 2008 Suzuki M109R with 16,000 miles on it. It had custom exhaust, RC Component wheels, 280 rear tire etc and the best I could get for it was $7500 (everyone's rational was because it was a "Jap" bike). And the last example I had was I reconditioned (gas tank sealer, fuel pump and tune up...original paint) a 2000 Harley Road King. Added Custom 21" front wheel and 18" rear, exhaust, custom seat, bullet windshield etc. It had 18,000 miles on it. It sold for $9500. Go figure. I was proud to own the Mastiff and enjoyed riding it. I wish I could have kept it along with my new bike but do not do enough riding to warrant having both. Still proud to wear the T-Shirts and caps. Bruce

WOW, prices are so low over there.
I paid $30k AU for my 07-08 K9 in 2011 then had spend another $2k putting it back to stock after ADR inspection.
I have been offered $25K as is, put that accros to USD and thats a big difference.
I personally would not sell the Dog, it cost me $1k per year for Rego and insurance and $400/ year for tyres.
The dog still looks good and attracts all sorts of attention, " wow mate why would you spend all that money converting a HD"?
Most people here in OZ have no idea.......................perfect.

Hit the nail on the head...bikes are cash only due to their age. No bank will finance them over 5-6 years old. That has an impact on resale more than people think.

It's easier to swallow $200 a month payment on a used Harley than come up with 10K cash

The comment about the Harley's is not true depending where you live. Also, a lot of Harley models resale price does go up sometimes as they get older. I have a friend in New York that sold his 48 Pan for $60000. Always depends on the area, what you have and who REALLY wants it. JMO
It's always worth what someone will pay. The joke is these guys who think their 1995 soft tail is worth just as much as the day they bought it new. I know there was a time in the 1990s when the factory couldn't keep up with the demand, and guys were selling there used bikes for way more then they were worth. New bikes were selling above list price. Those days are gone. The market is flooded, and in my area of NH, you can get a sweet Harley for $3500 to $6500 . Here is a 1998 fat boy for $5000 https://nh.craigslist.org/mcd/5682932561.html .

As others have said, its supply and demand, and bikes are for sale everywhere now. Its not just our bikes. Harleys are not worth what guys are asking for either. They just don't get it. I look at what it cost new. used is 1/2 that minus any mileage, and damage. No one is going to give you $8500 for your 1988 Soft tail. I don't care how much you put into it, or how much you insist that Harleys hold there value.

In reality, a 10 year old Harley is worth $4500 - $6000 tops. I'd say Big Dogs are worth a little more. $8500 to $12000. Depending on age, and model. People know that most Big Dogs will have to be re-wired, and that is gonna cost you $800 by the time your done, unless you do it yourself. I wouldn't even consider buying an Iron Horse or a Bourget for the same reason that its gonna have wiring issues. You can buy one of those off my local Craigs list for $6999 to $9000 all day long.
Check out the ad below. These are the guys that are smoking crack. Increased its value? to who? That bike is worth 5k to 7k. That's it. Good luck finding someone who is going to pay you more money then the bike cost you new.

From my local craigs list. The posting I showed above for the Fatboy is in the same Craigslist.
2000 Harley Davidson Softail Deuce. 1450cc Twin Cam 88 CB (counter balanced). Totally custom cosmetically but no internal engine mods. 100% mint condition. One owner. 18,500 miles.
First year release of the Deuce (2nd generation Softail custom). Discontinued in 2007 which has increased its value. $15,000. Serious inquiries only

Perfect example:
Kelly Blue book if in excellent condition is $7300. No bank will give you a loan for this bike for 15K. Yet some Harley owners still think the bikes go up in value. Nice paint, but the paint is not worth an extra $7500

And new ones are bumping 35 grand. I personally think the prices are all over the board. If you have to sell, it's probably gonna hurt more. You can't build a K9 for any where near the 8500 mark. A custom paint job alone is between 3 and 5 grand. Wheel sets pushing 4 grand(chrome) motor7 grand. see where this is going. And I ain't trying to be a dick, it's just the facts.
Your right PK. I priced a few items I was thinking about replacing. 124 S&S between 6 - 8 k depending if you wanted starter.. I do like the El Bruto 140 ci with 160/175 it just looks like a beast. So even if you get a rolling chassis, your looking at 20k to finish'er off with paint and graphics.. $$ :2cents:
