ok I gots my pipes off cuz my bracket broke and I was wondering if there was a way to get these pipes to not have so much decel pop?? I have adjusted the carb per S&S over and over..... accel pump is 1 3/4 turns out running 32-76 jets, my intake is tight as well as exhaust, is it due to low back pressure? pipes being too big, long, short??? and finally if not is there a pipe that sounds well and does not do this??? thanks!!!

I have the same bike and pipes, also have XXX carb and dual runner intake. when i had the bike put on the dyno, i told the tech i wanted less de-cell pop if he could. i now have
34-80 on the jets, it reduced the de-cell pop and the bike runs great. the only negative was the gas mileage. i lossed approxiametly 5 mpg

I'm in the same boat on my 07 K9 with the V&H BR pipes and factory breather. Was running lean due to previos owner had factory jets still installed. I rejetted to 78 / 31and adj carb, seems to run really good but tons of decel pop and mine actually shoots blue flames out the pipes at times when popping. Thought I was runnin rich but both plugs are a very nice cinnamon color? Got me scratchin my head at the moment.

Will keep my eye on this thread for suggestions as well.

thats what I got too and Im sick and tired of it!!! I was thinkin of bigger jets but thought I would ask all the grurus on here first!!!

Usually decel pop in caused by a lean air mix from my understanding you might try going to a larger main jet, maybe a 78. Or try adjusting you air mixture screw first.

Guess not too many takers on the questions huh..... By the looks of my plugs, I appear to be in good shape with the jet sizes. I have checked for exhaust and intake leaks and can't find any. I have adjusted air mixture screw a few times and seems to only make the running performance bad and not clear up the decel pop. Would like to just take and have dyno'ed, but was suggested to wait till abt 5k miles before doing so... If ya ever figure it out, lemme know and i will do the same.

Jus had 585 cam installed. Other techs...Super G carb, V&H BR 2x2, dual runner intake, properly jetted, jus dyno-tuned few days ago. K9 runs AMAZIN!!! But still a bit of decel pop upon first startin. Rarely afterwards, tho. Which is to be expected. If constant, even after initial fire up, consider jets and/or reliable dyno-tuning. And if dynoed, get printout BEFORE and after!

I have always heard that a decel pop is caused by unburned gas in the exhaust. A lean pop is going to be heard as a pop at the carb.

I think the "blue flame" he speaks of will back up this theory as well.

Anyway, this is what I have always heard, it may or may not be right (i.e. I don't want to start any argument)

PS: Dyno tunes are kind of a pain in the ass and semi-expensive when otherwise the Dog seems to be runnin great. But I swear by them!!! Lets me know EXACTLY whats goin on!!!

I had the same thing, do what Ruff said and I did, play with the mixture screw, go a bit richer make very small adjustments after you bike is hot. By the way, you'll know if your starting with the right jets, screw centered, turn to the left riching up bike will start to stall some black smoke, turn to the right leans out bike starts to stall. Check the forum for S&S carb adjustments, it's easier for me to do then explain.

No argument here my friend. I had significant decel pop with my Big Radius 2 into 2's with some other mods. I went up in main jet size pop all but gone. Doesn't make sense to me either but in most cases you are actually de-tuning and will probably give up some performace to get rid of the decel pop. Anyway my 2 cents worth.

so I did some playin aroun last nite an took the stock jet an drilled:down: it to .077 it sounded better but still poppin, took it to .078 then .079 at that point it sounded good plugs a rich tan looking decel pop all but gone this morning I drilled it to .080 to see what would happen and I love it!!! more power, smoother running, and running 5deg cooler (only a short ride will see how much later) anyways went and got a.080 jet tuned the carb again, runnin like a champ!!! thanks for the ideas guys!!:2thumbs:
