Used BGM

Hello: First time asking for advance (yes, I posted an intro~many months ago). I have a chance to purchase a used 05 BGM Chopper. It has the 117 CI with the E series S&S carb. It also has the TP style heads! My question; just how bad are these heads? The bike seems to run just fine. Would I have to immediatley replace them? Or could it wait for the first rebuild? The bike only has 7,500 miles, & is in really nice condition. Thanks too all that reply. Jersey James

If you can get her for $16k or less you got some room to dump the TP's and go to the G carb and still have paid a good price for the bike. Thats my opinion for what it's worth.

Having the tp heads doesn't mean they are just total junk. I have them on mine and have 12k on them no issues as of yet. They are a little noisy, but that has been about it thus far.

JJ, I purchased a 05 Chopper in 07 and have put 20,000 miles on it with the TP Heads with no problem. I did purchase a XXX G carb. and put on it runs fine for me. And Oh ya James thats Used BDM.

8000 mi on my TP rocker boxes and no problems. In my opinion the E carb is a better street carb,( better throttle response, better mileage) but the G will give you more top end. I say if it ain't broke don't fix it. Just buy it and enoy it.

Really depends on the bike. Personally, I feel it was one of big dogs biggest mistakes. They decided they were engine builders to save a buck. They failed to nail the geometry between the valve stem and rocker arm. They messed with a tried and true S&S design. It wouldn't stop me from buying the bike as long as you don't mind checking the valves OR swapping out the rocker boxes, rockers and possibly valve guides. Everybody always fights for what the possess. This was a known problem in 2005 when the TP boxes started to be used. Some got lucky but in general it's just a compromise.

Thanks guys. Well this one got away, sold for more than I would pay. I will keep looking for the "super deal" you know the one, right place at the right time, cash in hand. I don't think I will let the TP heads scare me away, but I would rather have the S&S. I am in no hurry, I will ride & enjoy my Pit. Again, many thanks & good health. Jersey James
