Ok i finally took the plunge:
have an 05 RB with stock 117.

-got a xxx g carb with minitaz (one TJ) polished
-need intake and not sure what part #....
-need new pipes 2-2.... big radius?
-going to change cam. thinking 585 so i dont have to change springs? Ideas on the 600?
-want to go with s&s boxes and roller rockers.
-like to get a dual runner intake also.

I have pulled the restrictors. Any suggestions for this dog would be greatly appreciated so i dont mess something up and end up buying extra parts and spending $$$$ needlessly in this economy. I believe most of this is a direct remove and replace....if i'm incorrect PLEASE educate me.
Thanks to all of you who have done this and help me with your experiences.
cheers

Prairiehorse, your 05 already has a 569 cam a jump to the 585 will not be that noticable. Just my two cents worth. My son has a 07 k-9 and he went up to a 595 macky cam and I still run right with him.And we both have the xxx G's and after market pipes.

t-byrd...what do you think of the xxx carb? is the cost of that upgrade worth the bucks? 05 bike here with the e-carb.

Ask Ray what he thinks about the Super E ,I think he is still running his. I have a friend that is still running his E and he runs right beside me when we crack them back. I think that in order to get much differance you have to do a lot I mean, carb., pipes, cam, & ign. at least that much to tell much differance. The Super E is fine but you do need to take the original intake gaskests out and change. Im also running a Wimmer Dual Runner Intake and they are running stock intakes and they are not much differance there neither.

If i remember correctly, upgrading a e carb will only bump you from a 42mm carb to a 47 or 49mm carb.

Just straping a super g on without a xxx upgrade will get you 55mm carb, decision over!!

Thanks t-byrd. Ya i was wondering about that. Think i might jump to a 600 cam..... springs from S&S are supposed to hold that cam, but might change them out anyhow. Gotta figure out pipes though. Not sure on big radius or mean mothers.......
05 old dog.... i will let you know what i feel on difference. I am going from a Super e to a xxx G with one TJ. I HOPE IT WAKES the dog up....

Well the Tj works well. It kicks in nicely at @3800-4000 rpm. Not much before that. The g definitely gives the 117 more snap. Although my gas mileage did drop a bit.

what about 4000 and up dosent the TJ kick in at 4000 rpm on vaccume from rpm..did you do the cam upgrade? just info...but i went to BBB in ark and visited with s&s at their booth and they were shocked that bdm put a e carb on any 117...of course when done visiting i had an estimate of 2500. dollars worth of mods to do...

Billy, I think your are going the right way, but I would suggest you upgrade your ignition, that was one of the best mods i have done, I have the XXX carb along with the dual runner and the Thunderheart Ignition.

If you do indeed have the 569 cam, your money may spent more wisely on an ignition upgrade.

Something to consider is that the 05 heads are EPA and not as good as the later models. Might be worth it in the long run to get your heads done before some of those other mods. The 05's do have the 569 cam.

yes...have plans to send heads and cylds to john sacs in nov. for up grades...what sucks about 05 is its heads ,cylds., manifold, carb, rocker arms, rocker boxes, then cam and lifters on top of all that then theres ignition...it doesnt end! if it wasnt for it being a bulldog i would probably sold it and bought a newer model....

Billy....its also one of the best looking bigdogs I've seen. :2thumbs: I would keep it just because of the open primary and the way the open primary sounds. :D

Ok.... got a toy run to do in Dec, then the heads come off and new rockers/springs/cam and boxes go on. Does anyone have the part #'s for these? Im running an 05 117 Ridgeback.
Thinking the s&s boxes (twin cam...right) roller rockers, and a 600 cam (any ideas on a 640-650?)......
The help is GREATLY appreciated.
Ps: carb is a xxx g with TJ and big radius pipes with baffels.
A few guys have suggested sending the heads into "Branch" to have them done there.... like i said ideas and thoughts are appreciated.

not a twin cam...its a big twin....S&S part numbers are...roller rocker arms...900 4065A...chrome boxes...90 4110... shafts...90 4036...lifters...33 5352...600cam...33 5058...585cam...33 5109...im still lookin for the manifold part number i think it depends on if you have your cylinder deck heights cut down...watch e- bay on the roller rockers i picked up a new set for 240.00 bucks...lookin for someone to do headwork also...depending on how and where you ride will factor into what cam you want...need to consider if you need low end torque for in town riding...
