Unfathomable noise

My bike is a 2007 K9 Limited Edition 5/100 with 5600 miles on it. The bike is in showroom condition never having spent a night outside.....gorgeous!!
"Black Tooth" has run perfectly until now when i am hearing a rattle, which is most pronounced at about 2500 rpm. It sounds like it's coming from the speedo which is a Dakota Digital. The first thing I thought of was the primary chain which was very loose and I adjusted it up tight but no help. Then I took the speedo shell apart (Twice!!) and Loctited all bolts but the
rattling persists,. I've also taken off the air cleaner cover and all seems perfect. The coil is tight and there is nothing loose in the battery box. All bodywork is tight.
There is nothing that sounds like a lifter at all. It is a metallic sound as though there is a loose piece of sheet metal but there is not!
There is NO loss of performance so I doubt there is a problem with the compression releases.
If I punch the headlight shell to vibrate it...no noise. Listening around the exhaust headers reveals no leakage.
All cables are cinched up tight with wire ties...no movement and not hitting the tank!
Does not sound anything like a lifter! Sounds like when you used to put a playing card into you bike spokes as a kid...those more senior will get that!
Any ideas?
Stumped...I am!

Nope...has nothing to do with braking and I doubt the lifters because at lower rpm...not present!
Thank you both for your input!!

did you take it above 2500 to see if it made more/less noise???? know you said it didn't sound like a lifter, but, broken stud mount? mine is an '07 and nothing like that has happened.

I know you said all your heat shields were tight.....take them off, go for a ride and see if it still does it.

Does the noise go with the RPMs? Does it get faster over 2500 RPM?

It could be many many things....could be a loose spring on a valve, could be a pushrod bleeding over....etc. etc...

Since WE can't hear the noise, you say it 'sounds' like sheet metal....take your heat shields OFF-even though you say they are tight and go for a ride.....

Leave the clothespin in until you find the noise.....
