type of gasoline to use

Hello everyone. I was wonder if, first it is ok, to use the high octane gas and second if you all recommend it, or if it doesn't really matter. Since it doesn't cost that much to fill up the bike I was thinking on always putting in the highest octane available. Anyway, thoughts?? Thanx guys.
Steve.

I only use high octane, because my bike pings with anything low. when I first got it I use regular and it would ping, I called dealer and even thought the manual said to use regular the dealer said I should use high test and that would stop the pinging, and they were right for once.

Yep, Agreed, the Highest Octane you can get is the best. I tried running the 87 octane in my H-D's and they ping like a SOB.

octane is non-flammable so the more you put in the harder it is to ignite, you get a little more compression before the fuel ignites when I say little I mean .001in maybe!!! about twice a month I run 110 octane, you will not really feel a gain in HP but, you will notice it runs smoother and cooler. when I build a motor for someone one of the first questions I ask is what fuel they plan to run, and build it around that fuel. I would say use the least amount of octane you can, UNTIL you build the motor and your compression gets up around 10:1 then go higher, if you do some looking on-line you will get tons of answers about fuel, what to use and what not:2thumbs:

The heat range on a plug only changes the actual cylinder heat it dissipates, it does not change the actual voltage or what some people think is a hotter spark.

a little reminder for the newbs, try to use a station that has a hose for each grade of gas. if the station's pumps have only one hose for all grades, you are getting the remainder in the hose from the last customer which probably bought regular. not a big deal if you are buying 15 gallons but it does cut your octane if you are only buying 2-3 gallon. :2thumbs:

That's a great recommendation. I'll be conscious of this in the future.

Thanks

I use the highest 90+ because it's a high compression motor that's air cooled.
