Turn signal gremlin

Ok so all of a sudden, my turn signals work when Im not moving and in neutral. Put it in first, nothing. While moving nothing. Stop and click to neutral, turn signals work fine. :loony:Crazy huh? Im gonna check all my connections this weekend, just figured someone may have had this or can give me some insight into the wiring of the signals on a 2003 chopper. Thanks!

Definitely crazy and I would think one really doesn't have anything to do with the other. First place I would check would be under the fender to see if the tire has rubbed the wires and allowing them to short. Generally, this is right were they make the turn to go from the fender into the hollow bolt for the tail light. If they both look good, check to make sure they didn't behind the battery and rubbed raw there. Last and not least, this could possibly be a sign of a failing EHC. If you have recently or ever installed a cruisemate, there's a chance that some metal fines have fallen onto the circuit board and is shorting.

I know its kinda crazy, but I have done it over and over and thats what happens. they work fine whe stopped in neutral. I was thing computer too. I hope not. Ill figure it out this weekend hopefully. And btw no I havent install anything recently under the seat or elec trically.

I've told this one before but here it goes again. I was having issues very similar to yours. It went on for what seemed like months. Well one night while pulling up to a stop light I lost a cylender. It's was all I could do to keep it running through the red then to limp it to the gas station at the opposite corner. Well while I was sitting at the light trying to keep it running I was looking around at the bike to see if I could see snitching obvious. Well I saw an arc. Only once or twice though. I pulled into the station and started checking my plug wires and low and behold my rear plug wire had broke inside the boot. Right where the wire is crimped to the coupler. It was arcing to the cylender. As I'm fiddling with the wire this guy pulls up on a Harley asking if I needed any help. I told him my issue and he said" Hey I just got done changing my wires and I have the old ones in my bag. " dude pulled out a wire on the spot and gave it to me. The moon and stars were aligned that night for sure. Long story short. Check your plug wires. If you have another set around put them on and see if that cures your issue. If that's not it I would guess you have a ground issue somewhere.

A simple way to look for a short is a fine mist of salt water sprayed over the suspect wires while its running. You don't have to soak the wires or anything heavy just a rear fine mist, do this at night and you'll spot the arc real easy.

And if the wires ain't f**ked up before, they will be with the salt spray.

Well i couldnt find any shorts...but the gremlin has retreated it seems...signal are working fine now. Im thinking i must have had some moisture somewhere that has dried. Eventually i need to go thru the wiring put some dieelectric grease and re tape all the connections...for now ill try to keep it dry.
