Tuff clutch...

2007 Mastiff
I just did this last night for a test, I had it so bad the only way to get into neutral was to shut the engine off. I did this on purpose to check what was posted and what the factory says to do so here ya go and I have a 2007 Mastiff.

On your clutch cable push the rubber boot all the way up so the clutch adjustment is visible. Using a 1/2" wrench on the nut and 7/16" on the cable loosen the nut. Run the adjuster in until the clutch handle (grip) is lose and you can squeeze it all the way with no resistance.

Now unscrew the cap covering the clutch adjustment rod -- (on the right side, the chrome cap has dimples and unscrews). Using an 11/16" wrench and 7/32" allen head wrench loosen the 11/16" locking nut (run it out a bit when lose).

Using you allen wrench turn the clutch rod clockwise removing the free play (SLIGHT PRESSURE ONLY PLEASE). Now using your allen wrench to hold the clutch rod tighten the 11/16" locking nut 10-12 ft/lbs (don't kill it). Apply some never seize on the threads of the cap, clean the o'ring and screw it back on.

Back to your clutch cable adjuster - adjust the cable until there is 1/16" play at the grip (You need to stand up and use your left hand on the grip squeezing it in and out a few times). Continue to take out the free play at the grip 1/16" is next to nothing. Tighten up the locking nut of your cable and go for a ride. If its still hard getting it into neutral there is too much free play in your handle.

If your clutch is too hard to pull, the clutch rod may be bent so you will need to check this.

If after making all the adjustments still no luck, it may be your clutch is gone, or for older models clutch basket problems.

Good luck ... mine works great!! If you change your tranny fluid with Redline HD shockproof be prepared to adjust your clutch - two of us have had to do this. :2thumbs:

Ody k.

Welcome to the site. First thing you should do is come back and post up a little information about yourself, your ride, location, etc. Just a good little intro so we can get to know you per say. Also I would go to the Map feature on the top bar and pin your location so that other near you may be able to hook up sometime and enjoy some stories, share some roads, or help each other out in a pinch. Last is get a picture of the bike so we can all see what you got.

On the Clutch, this may help you:

I would also take the time to go through some of the sub-folders such as technical and check things out, many questions will already have a thread in here and if you learn to use the search feature, you are likely to find what you need pretty quick. That and get used to the sub-folders, for the is a great deal of advice, how to, info on Service bulletins and recalls, mod, and many tips.

Welcome again and try to get that basic intro, the map and the pic up as soon as you get a chance.

This job is one of those where it takes longer to find the fing allen wrench that you forgot to put back in the lil sleeve then it does to actually adjust it. I did notice though that some say apply light pressure then back it off a 1/4 turn, I tried that with no luck. I ended up cranking it back in to "light pressure" and it works like a dream, better then it did when new (5k on bike). Neutral was a pain in the ass, now it clicks easily right in :D :D
