Trouble turning over. Once in a while

I have a 2007 big dog bulldog with the EFI Ignition. Once and a while I'll hit the starter button and all it does is click. I'll put the bike in gear and push it a little so the motor turns slightly. Then hit the button and it fires right up could it be my Electronic decompression buttons?

Rolling the bike doesnt do anything to the compression releases

Yeah i would say your decompressions are not working or ur battery is a little weak....either way sometimes putting the bike in gear and getting it off a certain stroke will let it start...might want to check ur connections on the battery and starter and starter ground to make sure ur connections are clean and good and if they r then check ur battery to see if its doing what it should charge wise...u should be able to hear the decompression releases click when ur turn on ur key and if u dont i would say that would be ur problem or a possible short....several things to check first

If you hit the start button again does it click again?
Is bumping the bike forward the only or easiest way to get it to start?
If so, you either have a loose connection, or more likely a starter issue. I had a Dodge many years ago that did this for months before it finally crapped out. Get it diagnosed and fixed or get AAA plus RV as you'll be getting stuck somewhere if you're not careful.

Post #3 suggests to clean the ground strap ends. That's a lot of years going by that rust may be the resistance at the starter. Get that out of the way before chasing the battery. But if I think about it, I can toggle the keyfob a few times, hand on a decompression sensor(s) and see if the magnetic plunger has E going to it. Also, seems the battery could recover and push the engine over. Scrape till you see fresh metal at both touch points of the eyes and start the bike with a freshly charged battery. Holding the sensor won't shock you since the body is screwed into the head and acts the ground of that body, not you.

It only clicks once then I have to shut off the Ignition turn it back on hit the Button again and it only clicks so what I do is put it in gear get the motor to turn over a little. hit the button and it fires right up.

[mention]Jimmy the Freedom rider [/mention] did you ever figure this out. My 06 K9 is doing the exact same thing. Just started during the last couple weeks. And not always. And, like you, if I shift and roll (not even sure why I tried it) it starts up.

Thinking about buying a starter JIC to have handy.

If you're sure you have a good battery, and your compression releases are working, try cleaning you starter solenoid contact.

You don't have to remove the starter to do this.

Way simple job. Easier off the bike, but you should be able to also do it on the bike if you don't have a belt or lines in the way -- your mileage may vary. OK - first get the starter The important bit is the three screws on the solenoid. Remove them, but remember there is a spring...

Sounds like you need a new battery, make sure all connections are tight and clean.
