I noticed while cleaning my 2002 prosport that the triple tree stem nut (under bottom tree) was loose. Fall away still checks out fine, but what value should I torque the nut to in order to keep it from coming loose?
thanks, Mike
Mike, if it is like my 2000 you set the fall away by tightening the bolt and setting the preload on the bearings. There is a set screw in the back of the tree plate that locks the bolt in. I can post a pic tomorrow if you need one. Are you sure your bearings are ok?
Hi Frank,
Yes, the bearings are smooth, and the bike rides great and the fork fallaway test is good. So the set screw is all that keeps the stem nut from coming loose, no torque required on it other than that to adjust the bearings?
thanks, Mike
Yes that is the way I understand it. You would have to remove the set screw first to even turn the adjusting bolt. Put some lock tight on the set screw when you put it back in.
