Hello folks - I have a 2008 K9 and I'm hearing a clunking/thumping metal sound coming from the front of my bike when I hit large bumps in the road. The bike has 13000 miles on it and I'm thinking maybe the noise is coming from the triple tree area.
I think maybe I may need to replace the bearings. Can someone tell me what bearing set will fit the K9?
Do you think I'm going down the correct path with replacement of the bearings?

Does there seem to be a lot of play in your handlebars? Are you able to move them back and forth? Might want to check the bushings where your handlebars go into the triple trees. I replaced mine and problem solved.

Don't seem to notice any play in the handle bars. Can't get my dam bike jack under the bike to jack it up to get the weight off the front end. I'll have to run the front tire up on some boards so that I can get the jack under the frame. But I don't notice anything in the handle bars. This is strange. Front wheel seems ok.

Give your bearing neck cups a good going over. Top and bottom. They can and DO crack. Ask Franco how he knows!! If you replace the bearings be sure to do the races as well. Jmo.

with 13k on the bike, have the forks had the seals and bushings and fluid replaced? it is recommended to rebuild the forks at 10k but i did mine at 8.5k and they were almost gone. that could also cause looseness in the front end. while you have the front end apart, it would be a good thing to completely rebuild it.

For the forks go with KaptinAmerika (Curtis) here on the site. He has all the parts, bearings and seals etc you need for the fork job.

As far as a jack, go to Sears and get the craftsman jack. they have two models, both work well. I have the more expensive one, but the less expensive one works as well. it slides right under our low bikes. I tried many, that one was one of the sturdiest and it would slide right under where others wouldn't.

i have the yellow one (the better one) and i still have a piece of 2x6 and a piece of plywood as a ramp to raise the bike enough for the jack to go under my K9. at 3.75 inches of ground clearance, that ain't much.

It's not a lot. Here's a pic of mine. It's about 3.5 off the ground and slides right under no problems at all. Came with the 'lifters' for dirt bikes as well. Is your K9 lower than mine?

EDIT: Sorry, DAMN pic is upside down...I'm just a dumb guy with a smart phone......
