Transmission Torque Needed

Removed the drive belt pulley to replace seal due to an oil leak. I found this plug/set screw in the picture link below was loose and was the major leak. It is a 5/16 X 1/2 X 24 straight thread. The manual states to apply teflon tape and install. It doesn't say what torque.

What is the torque of this plug/set screw?

Does it hold/position the shifter fork shaft?

I don't have my manual with me... just put on the teflon tape and put it back in with the alum version of the german meathod... "guud n tite"

I'm all about torque specs but many many bikers have made countless miles without a single torque wrench.

I agree!!!! PRIMARY cover is a good example ..Like I'm going to use a torque wrench on that ..and never seen a shop use one ....
"guud n tite"

Yea I think so too, but wasn't sure if this screw affected the alignment or operation of the shifter fork rod. I tightened it up some and shifted the gears and it doesn't seem to matter.

Don't think there is a torque value on that one, I have assembly manuals on a Jims and didn't see anything. I've had mine and the Jims apart 4 or 5 times and never torqued that, just made it tight. Come to think of it, I don't think I even put tape on them, but both bikes are LSD so leaking in that direction doesn't matter .
