TRANSMISSION SHOUT

Well went to ocean city this weekend, and met up with moe and other, and had a nice weekend. BUT on the ride home ( It was a beautiful day) the cycle lose power and clutch lever had no tension. SO first thought clutch cable broke, have about 25000 miles never change. well drifted off highway, and just sat and thought about it for about 10 minutes, and started working, well after checking several thinking, I pulled left side and oil came running out and whole rear gear assem. you could move. I am pretty sure shaft broke. I will have to take it apart in next day or so. lucky I changed insurance companies and had towing, they towed it about 100 miles and the best part (FREE) to me. you see there's always a bright side if you look for it. well I ma sure I will be looking for some advice so.

really no advice to give here bruce except have a nice week and at least it happened on the way home and not to OC...you will as allways figure it out

Yeah it wouldn't be the first or the last. Just another way for the bdm priopriorty (sp?) to bite you in the rear. But hey, you needed to service the primary and trans anyway...right! That's the bright side. ????

Dig into the primary and see whats what.

I hope it's the nut and not your main shaft.

Who do you have insurance with? I'm with State farm and they don't offer towing for cycles

the main shaft broke, which is what I thought it was. I called baker directly and they were pretty good I thought. I removed and sent them the trans. they charge $50.00 a hour for 2 hour to take apart and put back together with good parts. It cost me about $400.00 including freight to and from. they replaced main shaft, and of course bearings, seals etc. also they gave me a used 4th gear and one shifter fingers which were worn. plus I talked them into a one year warranty parts and labor which they put in writing on my bill.

Thats good to hear. Do you have the trans back in yet?

How long did it take them to fix it for you?

Next time anyone on this site needs their transmission rebuilt look me up and PM me. I can rebuild your transmission for less than Baker, no problem:2thumbs: I have all the Baker tools to perform the job and can get any part needed. I have a bunch of bearings and seals and can get anything else you may need. I can also upgrade the bearings from the Korean made FAG to some better INA, SKF or Timkins. They cost a bit more but will last a lot longer than your stock Korean junk.
Also, did they replace just one shift fork? Did they replace the shift fork rod? If not they should have, the rod is only $5 and can be easily bent.
