Transmission/primary major leak

Got everything stripped down and have found the source of the metal...the clutch hub assembly had so much play in it that it was torquing itself into the primary case and stripping the metal off of that. The trans main shaft doesn't have any lateral movement, but it will move up a half centimeter...and you can see in the picture trans oil is actually leaking from the bottom of the shaft into the primary. I'm assuming this is a main bearing issue?
If you don't mind my asking - how many miles do you have on this transmission?
I have the exact same issue with my 07 k9 with only 10k miles. My primary vent is clear. Primary oil is getting sucked into the transmission and blows out the trans overflow tube all over my back tire and brakes. I pulled the trans last night. There is considerable play on the clutch side of the mainshaft - the seal looks ok but of course a seal is not going to work if the mainshaft is moving around. I don not believe a new transmission is the answer here. I would think this is premature mainshaft bearing wear due to perhaps poor quality bearings. I wont get into all the torsional dynamics of the 300 tire mated to this transmission or the extra weight of the bandit clutch sitting on the mainshaft. I have inspected the mainshaft and it appears to be the hardened one - not the earlier one that was prone to breakage. Oh I also had the metal filings in my trans case and there are a few scrape marks on the inside of the primary but not extensive like you have. I intend to call Andrew over the next few days about a rebuild....

It's an 05 ridgeback with a little over 15,000 miles. I'm just going to do a rebuild, but I do have the old shaft with the gap between the threads and splines so that'll up the cost a bit.

Talked to Andrew Barnes at 607.727.8545 (barnesperfomancecycles) - great guy. Shipping trans to him this week - Should get a lot more miles this time around after he does his mojo!

He worked his Mojo on mine last year and all is good, great guy. I actually drove up and watched him do it in a couple hours and brought it home with me same day. Don't get any better than that.

One of the old ones.
Just a thought, but have you checked the four transmission bolts under the bike? I know of one case where these all vibrated out/loose. Should be easy to check on a Ridgeback. Gotta drop the rear of the shocks of a K-9 to access them.
The first alignment for your transmission is to bolt it to the primary. If the transmission can move against the frame, maybe that could produce enough flex to ruin seals/bearings and grind on the case?
And---Barnes does install a higher quality of bearings than stock in his rebuilds.

On the 05 ridgeback I'm showing 6 underneath the transmission that are bolted to the frame, I've got to drop the oil pan though to get to them...the two that I can see seem to be pretty snug, working on dropping the pan now
