Transmission Leak

This weekend while Jason "BYRDDOGG" and I were riding his tranny started leaking and it is eather coming from the seal at the drive sprocket or the plug above it. My question is if its the plug will it hurt to ride it for a few days tell he can get it in and get it fixed, Or can the plug back all the way out and cause damage. If not as long as he keeps the fluid level up will he be O.K.

I would check it out before I rode it again. How much fluid is comming out? Have you checked the fluid level? Try to find out exact location of the leak. If it's the plug, drain the fluid, put a small amount of liquid teflon tape on, install plug, fill with new gear oil. If it's a seal, and it's a very small leak, carry some fluid and a wrench for the plug, check every so often, get fixed ASAP. If you loose all trans fluid, you'll be in for an expensive fix.

If when you go to take the front pully off do you have to have the pulley locking kit to get the pulley off.

???? Confused here T. Your talking about the transmission leaking or the plug above it? What plug?

The front pulley is pretty easy, remove your exhaust, clutch hub adjuster cover. Remove the clutch rod then pull the four bolts to the cover and remove it. There you will see the pulley held on by a large nut with two hex bolts as locking pins. Remove them and unscrew the nut and slide the pulley off. It's on a splined shaft.

Ray under the pulley at the top of the transmission there is a plug just above the seal on the right side and if it backs out it will leak like crazy and its a easy fix all you do is screw out and thread tape and screw it backin . I just thought you had to have a pulley locking kit to keep it from turning to get the pulley off.Thats what I was told. Ray you can go to thread by Bama Tim under Transmission Seal and there are a picture of it all.

T, had the same problem with the and also the seal started leaking. Both was an easy fix. The plug I just put some thread sealant on and the seal had to remove the sprocket. If it is the seal remember the sprocket nut is left hand threads.
