I had baker rebuild my trans. several years ago when main shaft broke, and they were great. I have also call them just for info and were very helpful.
What causes the main shaft to break or bend? My first replacement transmission was because the main shaft broke in half. Now another transmission went down and they are saying the main shaft is bent? Any ideas or anyone else experiencing same issues?

I can only speak for myself but I did have my main shaft break a few years ago, apparently it is a common problem on Big Dogs(metal used on shaft was poor?), I had it replaced at a local dealer but I dont think they did anything else to my transmission but replace the shaft, and nothing else. So that being said it was a matter of time til I had my next issue and that was 3rd gear slipping. I called Baker and after talking to them they convinced me to send it in...I am glad i did, they went through it and replaced my main shaft again (out of tolerance) bearings, shifter fork/rod etc and now runs great. I have a year warranty with it,If i remember right it cost me around $700 I would have to look back but roughly around there. I just got back from a 4200 mile ride and it worked great! I do recommend Baker, they are professional and thorough...good luck!

The mainshaft can break/bend for many reasons. A mainshaft can be bent from kickback on trying to start an engine. The mainshaft can also become bent from an improperly adjusted primary chain. The most common cause is from the clutch. If the clutch becomes loose or is run loose for any period of time, it can wobble on the shaft and create a stress riser.

I just got my transmission back from Baker's as well. They're a good squad, and I have NO complaints. I was nervous/ anxious to get my dog back on the road at least once before I have to let her sleep for the winter so I called once or twice... LOL They called to update me on what was wrong, and called when it was fixed. It was about $700 with shipping, and Rob, a six-pack of Bud Light, and I will be putting it back in tomorrow! Happy Veteran's Day y'all and thanks Baker Team!
