Transmission Failure

Energy One
Took my 06 K9 to Little Rock Bigdog dealer last saturday because of a clutch problem. Which Gasman diagnosed correctly. Loose nut on the clutch basket. (Thanks Chris :2thumbs: ) Tech got it back together and took it for a test ride. Went 4 miles and the transmission locked up. Stuck in third gear  . Tech called Bigdog and asked about the problem and they new exactly what it was. I believe they said the countershaft on the transmission had moved. Bigdog said they wanted to look at the transmission and that they would rebiuld it and do some upgrades to the transmission free of charge. My warranty expired 4/01/08 Was really glad to hear that. Thanks Bigdog for standing behind your product. :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

Glad my E-diagnosis was right. GO ME! :whoop:

Go BDM for taking care of it!!!

Sucks that you'll be down for it. How long do they say it will be?

Dealer pulled transmission saturday and Fed-Ex it this morning. Dealer said as soon as he gets it back from Bigdog he'll install. Dealer didn't know how long Bigdog would have it. Said they sounded like they would get on it as soon as it arrives. Just have to wait and see. Knocked me out of a Deals gap ride and ROT already. But, everything happens for a reason. Its all good.

It hasn't been a total loss....I got to see great pics of the Redwood Run and ROT. Could be worse, DSL could go down :D

Sorry about your problem and downtime Mick, but glad to hear BDM is fixing it for you. Hope you're back in the saddle soon! Ride safe.

Got the Dog back Saturday from Rodneys with my new rebuilt transmission. Thanks Bigdog for covering the transmission even though my warranty had expired :2thumbs: . Everything seems good, bike runs great. Took 1 month to get it done, but I got more time than money...so it worked for me. I'm Back Baby!!!

They're good guys and seem to be genuinely interested in making sure things get done right and right the FIRST time. I'll be taking mine to Terry in a week or so for my 2500 mile maintenance.

Ray....take a lot of pics for me. After reading your stories and looking at the pics of the Redwood Run almost felt like I was there.

I just had this same issue with the nut backing off, today & my bike only has 1200 miles on it. Hope it doesn't get any worse.

Got home with the bike & took it for a test ride...
Clutch started slipping in 4th gear & the feel of the clutch lever got lighter & lighter every time I used it. On the way back home, I noticed if it slipped in 4th, the lever would feel normal again. Once I shifted to another gear, the lever would feel light & not fully return to the operating position. It would stay about 1/4 pull in toward the hand grip. Shift into 4th, give it gas, clutch would slip, & lever would feel normal.
Anyone have any ideas? I think I will pay the dealer a visit early in the morning.

No biggie pull your primary cover take the 4 bolts in the diaphram spring out and you will find a loose nut it has reverse threads. Clean it with break clean and retorque to 100 ft pds with red loctite reassemble. refill primary fluid and for sure check trans fluid!
