Transmission Alignment for first time

Energy One
Anybody have anything on how to properly align the transmission with the real wheel. Have 02 pitbull and tore it apart due to improper tracking and primary issues. I want to set it up right. real wheel is true and just need best way to square trans w backwheel now.

When I tore my 04 Pit down, it waz pretty easy. Once motor, trans and primary are all connected but still loose enough to move around a bit, I put the back wheel on and made sure the belt tracked tru both directions. Tightened it up and checked it again. Made tweeks until I was happy with tracking, then loctite all motor trans bolts and done. I know there are prolly better ways to do this but this is how I done did it.

When I'm putting bikes back together, I get my first line up by bolting the inner primary to the engine and transmission, then measuring from the frame to the outside edge of the inner primary. Then I do as Human does with the rear wheel

Relating to the rear wheel spacers on 02 pitbull, was there a standard setup or was each bike set up a bit different? Any diagrams are appreciated of leads just to make sure.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Groved one on each side w slight protrude go against bearing right?

yes that is correct

Make sure u have the spacers on the correct side as that will throw everything off...spacer probably has a slight machined step on one end and thats the end that goes to the bearing race

Spacers seem correct, tore primary down due to noise n alignment issues, was told to start from rear wheel n move forward truing everything. Got a laser level n all mounting surfaces are parallel +-.005
Then started aligning trans pully w rear n it dawned on me that while the trans mounts h as s allot of wiggle room TV he eng I'll ne does not so the engine n trans may as well be connected first before attempting to align rear pully correct? What if the engine limits my rear alignment properly

There should be plenty of 'wiggle' room for you to get a good alignment. I left the motor n trans bolts loose, bolted up the inner primary (which aligns them to each other) then worked the rear wheel until I found the sweet spot where the tire can rotate either direction wth no belt walk. Tightened motor and trans, recheck belt and volia. Not too tough just a lot of time involved.

So basically your adjusting your rear wheel to run straight w your motor n trans ...which seems wrong to me as the real wheel must run true first then motor n trans can follow that.. I say this respectfully and just wondering if doing it that way will cause misalignment...how far off true can the rear wheel be?

Rear wheel will not be off enough to make a difference. If the wheel spacers are correct you should be able to dial it in fairly easy. Its worked well for me on the 04 Pit. Im in the process of tearing down after 8 years and the belt looks great. Just my .02

My rear pully n rotor seem spaced pretty good ...how do I know if I'm missing thin shims or if my rear end is spaced properly? There must be a formula.
