not sure how to describe this noise.. it dosent do it all the time... when I was @ bikers dream having a compression release replaced under warrenty thay couldnt find anything (it wouldnt do it) belt is tracking fine.. its comming from the belt drive sprocket side of the tranny, I've drainded the tranny fluid & found nothing metal in it.. the fluid level is correct.. I tried the silicone on the belt just to be sure.. it dosent change anything... my warrenty runs out in aug,, ant ideas??? click on pict to view..

I've heard that noise when I over tightened my belt. It was a popping of the teeth from the tension on the sprocket.

I agree.. had my HD do that after I had some after market wheels installed during daytona... when I got home I fixed it.. the belt seems fine,, checked the tention.. its got about 5/8 deflection.. I might try to losen it a touch & see if that helps.. just concerned that it has started & no belt adjustment has been made for it to get to tight...

Quite likely your tranny is out of alignment. When the teeth on the belt don't line up with the teeth on the gear it will pop like that. Because the front gear is so much smaller than the rear gear it is the front gear that you will hear it from the most. I had this problem on an 03 Chopper until I tore it down and lined the tranny and the rear end back up again. Same problem with the shop "We don't hear anything there is nothing wrong with it".

will it hurt anything??? should this be a warrenty issue?? I was wondering.. its about 62-65 degrees in my shop... do you think the belt contracts due to cooler temps?? & in the dealers shop it was warmer & causes the belt to expand?? just wonder why it dosent to it all the time...

Not to say proper alignment isn't important...but ...
What I did to help my situation was first take out the lock Allen screws that hold the set screws for the axle shaft. Then loosen the axle shaft bolt under the dress cover. Then by turning the belt side(axle adjusting allenscrew) a 1/2 a turn at a time, while rotating the wheel like in your video try to make the noise go away by finding the proper alignment. Then tighten the tension for the belt equally. Straight edge and ruler are only good in the straight tranny/frame/rear tire scenario.

Eric not sure....how much tension on your drive belt...I set mine with about 1"play.....have you checked to make sure the tranny bolts are nice and tight...Kaptan may be right "Alignment"

The noise is concerning and needs to be addressed....IMO..

specs on the belt call for 5/8 to 3/4.. I got 5/8 I'm gona check the tranny bolts in the next day or 2.. work has been keepin me busy.. the heat wave we been having is playin havoc on all these walkin coolers/freezers,ice machines, & hvac units.. I keep up...... thanks for the tip.. but 1 in play souns pretty lose to me.. but if it works thats great..

The problem with this method is you then only have a rear tire aligned to the tranny. Of course that will keep the belt from getting torn up and worn out prematurely but now you will have to deal with tires that wear to fast.
