Does anyone know for sure who makes the transmission in 2000 Husky 5 speed?

would it be a bid mistake to simply replace the transmission with one of the Ultima 6 speeds? Anyone have a good or back experiences?

I've been running an Ultima 6 speed in my bud's Bourget for over a year now and no troubles. Shifts as nice as his old Jims that blew up. I'm planning on putting one in my friend's 2002 Mastiff soon. A lot of guys use them on custom builds, they are dirt cheap. You can blow up 5 of them before you buy one Baker.

Dano, I believe it is an Andrews 5 spd. At least thats what my service manual states for a 00' Husky

I haven't heard much about the "ultima" brand. I do know that my buddy built a "ground up" chopper and used all ultima drive train and had no problems. he ended up putting a 3-4000 mi on it before he got rid of it.
And Moe is right... they are much cheaper then a JIMS or Baker.

The repair shop I use "BDM certified" told me that they use ( and recommended) "Parts Accessories" 6 spds. He says they use them in pretty much all the customer builds unless the customers specifies something different. He also said that he hasn't had any problems with them at all.

Thanks for the replys, I finally got ahold of Bid dog and they also said Andrews gear sets in aftermarket cases see below the mail I received from BD:

In the 2000 model Big Dog Motorcycles the transmission was assembled
in-house with ANDREWS gears and an aftermarket 5-speed case. Usually,
JIMS, Total Performance (TP), or DELKRON, depending on the model. The
serial number would indicate who's case it is.

Also this is the model clutch assy. that was installed by big dog on 1997-04 models:

PC-1200-C 1990-97 EVO BIG TWIN 1997-2004 BIG DOG MOTORCYCLES
CLUTCH PACK HEIGHT 1.345"APPROX.
9-PC-018-90 FIBER CLUTCH PLATE (.090")
8-PC-019-90-A STEEL CLUTCH PLATE .047"
2-PC-019-90 STEEL CLUTCH PLATE .080"
PC-4 REPLACEMENT CLUTCH PACK (ALL ABOVE INCLUDED)

Also Big Dog sent me instructions from Primo and it says in the instructions to add Dextron III ATF to the Primary? I have not heard this before and will have BD and if necessary Primo to confirm it?? I have been using regular HD primary fluid and have no clutch fuction problems and I know when I got the bike it did not have ATF fluid?

Big Dog told me they assembled the bike using Rev Tech fluids, Primo did not have an answer about the ATF in their instruction PDF doc. but they also agree Rev Tech or HD formulated fluid is ok for the primary lubrication.

Primary fluid

ATF is fine to use in any Big Twin primary including H-D. However, do not use Dextron, use type F only. It is higher temp. fluid with a higher viscosity & less detergent. More suited for V-Twin primary useage.

Many here have posted they are using ATF in the primary. I use the revtech from the dealer or in a pinch I get the HD stuff.
