Tranny and Speedo question

Just breaking in my new to me 2008 ridgeback and have two questions:

1. Does the Baker tranny always require force to upshift. Seems to require a solid push (much more than my Harley) to move it to the next gear. I also may not be accustomed to forward controls but I have misshifted a few times.

2. My speedo doesn't work when started cold, but if I drive it for a while and then turn the ignitiion off and restart, it usally begins to work. Any thoughts on why a speedo would begin to work after the bike is warmed up? The tach works right away.

I would try adjusting the clutch for the shifting issue. You could also change to Spectro 75-140 platnium 6 tranny fluid.

Sounds like a low battery. I was having the same issue as well as many others here. Get the bike on a battery tender or pick up a new battery with a minimum of 300 CCA's. I picked one up at Parts America somewhere around $100.

I think it was a Magnapower ETX20L 310 CCA no problems since replacing it. I would verify the number your Ridgeback may be different in size.

First make sure your clutch linkage (heim joints) are free and move easily.
then check your foward control shifter for free movement (dirt can get in )

Make sure you clutch is properly adjusted

Then make sure your cable is properly adjusted.

You need to kinda go in that order.

Now if that does not remedythe situation it is possible that the clutch hub nut (inside the primary) is loose. This has happened to several memebers including my self and unitl I fixed this I could not get a consistant adjustment on my clutch.

This is a common problem with the speedo. There was a flash for the EHC which would reset the speedo after the bike was running. I didn't get this because it was a good indication that the battery was getting weaker during starting. Keeping your battery on a tender will make sure your battery has good CCA for starting and good voltage during starting. I would always make sure you have a good battery with good connections which will solve many of the problems encountered. You can also buy a Dakota Digital and put away your original Speedo for spare parts!
