TP Performance Rocker Boxes

When you align the rocker on the top of valve the rockers are pushing the valve out before it descends down. Their for wearing out the valve guide prematurely.
I don’t buy that, it's a Roller Rocker. How can it push latterly? I think it’s bad machining from the start.
I still say BDM should be swapping them out!!!

John I didn't think you could put s&s boxes on these heads they have different bolt patterns.
Our heads are S&S T. Only difference besides the top cover with it's 4 bolt pattern is the lower box is one piece (rocker assembly is part of the box) where the S&S is two pieces (rocker assembly attaches to the box). Then the cover bolts on to the lower box.

Sometimes I am a little dense. Can you put a late model 2006 S&S rocker box assembly on an early 2006 motor that had a TP rocker assembly?

Personally I will take what John Sachs says as the gospel. I don't think there is anybody here that knows these motors better. My $0.02

Well I guess everything they told us at Bigdog was false statements then huh? They have just as much knowledge of more than S&S does along with 100's of hours of testing and R&R. So how many boats did you run with an S&S motor:D Just messin with ya:up:
Actually...

If you bolt 4 S&S engines together side by side, you get just about any Small Block or Bick Block chevy engine, depending on what S&S engines you use.

...For the most part anyway, they are about the same.

John is right - I remember seeing a diagram of the two side by side (thought it was here) but the angle is a hair different.... they are similar but not identical.

Just curious to know ?
Is the valve guide failure specific to.... front or rear cylinder ...intake or exhaust valve....whats the historical data on this ? and after inspection of the worn valve guide im sure it could be quantified by visual or mechanical inspection that the wear is in the same location of the valve guide, in the direction of the lateral force being applied to the valve guide wall....wouldn't that be a good indication that there is a geometry error....just trying to learn a little something

oh oh you guys are scaring me with head problems. ive had all the other problems the belt & sprockett, ehc, main shaft in tranny breaks. handle bar spacers went bad cause throttle cables to scratch gas cap and then hit dash/console and break the rear brackett replaced and painted. paint saver on right side of gas tank didn't help paint it rolled the paint repainted. it's a 2005 mastiff 117 I bought in apr this year with 1406 miles when tagged it has 6800 miles. It went down 14 nov when tranny blew at 70 mph it's at the vet getting fixed. might get it back this weekend. I hope it has s&s heads it's been awhile since seeing it. 5000 miles I have rode it, it's been a Blast

I would bet the majority with the TP boxes can remove them and take a felt marker and mark the 4 valve stems and mock the boxes back together, then turn the engine a few rounds then remove the boxes and rocker arms, and see for yourself that the rocker arms are walking all over the valve stem, instead of staying in the center where they should be,or they will be to the front or rear of the stem causing premature guide wear, imo bad geometry, or even a high mileage engine i bet the wear groove is not dead center..Dave.
