Gents,

A good question for the crowd. I own a 2009 K9...first big twin. What would be considered to much top end noise to push back to the dealer to have a look??

Thanks to all for a great information site..

Good question, I don't know the answer to that. I've had American V-twins all my life and the top end sound is normal to me.
Also, do you still have the stock exhaust on it? If so then once you put on some after market pipes on then you won't hear the top end any more. :D
I don't know what you rode before but if you are worried about it I would take it back to the dealer when you can and have them look at it. If they tell you it's normal then you will know and have that base for future use.
These evo motors are sure more quiet than the old Shovelheads!!!

Welcome to the site,

When I bought my 03 Chopper I took it in for valve train noise. It was normal. Keep in mind the engine is between your legs with no insulation. It's more than likely normal and will quiet down some with miles. The stock pipes will absolutely magnify it like Ray said.

I hear that Ray, I've rode a shovel all my life and this dog sounds quiet to me.

I'd say don't chance it. If the noise concerns you, don't hesitate, have the pro's look at it. Mine was chattering a bit more than usual, and after continuously pestering my dealership, I finally got someone who could actually spell "Big Dog" to take a look at it. Turns out that two of my lifters had collapsed. The bike had to be trucked to a different dealership in order to be worked on. Good thing I caught it when I did, the damage could have been worse.

Remember... If you get the feeling that someone is blowing smoke up your ass, it's probably because they are.

being that yours is a 09...you already have the S&S rockers on it....like others said..maybe have the stealer look at it....
mine is a 06 and I had the TP rockers on it....mine made noise...a little more than normal...I had my dealer look at it and they found one of my guides were out of tolerance....so they put on the S&S rockers....heads and valve train...all under warranty...of course I had them put in the .600 cam while they were in there, being that I already had the .640 springs in it....now its alot quieter than it was:2thumbs:
