TOOK THE K-9 FOR A WALK!!

Well I literally took the K-9 for a walk today! Just put my New Baker Belt Drive in a week ago, bike was cleaned up ready to roll and I was heading out to bike night at the local Harley dealer. Fired the bike up at the house, rode for about 10 miles, stopped for fuel, went to start the bike and CLICK, NO START.

Pushed it away from the pump, checked connections carefully around the hot pipes, all seemed OK, tried again and CLICK, NOTHING! :(

The only option I had was to push the old girl about a half a mile down the road until I came to a small down hill incline, gave her a push, jumped on popped her in 2nd gear and down the road I went, strait home. Needless to say it’s a little embarrassing pushing a chopper down the road with all the Friday night rubber Neckers Checking you out!

Hey, Yeah gotta do what Yeah gotta do!!

Got home and tried the starter once again and nothing. Checked her out, have voltage to the starter; solenoid is activating but no seal in or starter motor turn. I had just put this starter in late last year, lucky it is still under warranty, it will be in the mail first thing Monday! So instead of spending my Friday night at the Harley Cruz In I spent it pulling my starter out.

Oh Well!!

Yeah, I tried that to, tapped on the soleniod with a hammer handle when I was diagnosing the problem, still nothing. I had oil dripping out of my starter before I put the belt drive on, oil may have gotten to the brushes or something else in the starter motor. I had contacted Accumax, (where starter was purchased), about the oil dripping out of the starter, asked about shaft seal and if anything needed to be checked in starter while it was out of bike for belt drive install, they thought I would be OK. Guess not.

Oil dripping from the starter was the last straw with the set sump, the other problem was inspection cover corners cracking and they are hard to find!!

Love the Belt Drive!! What little I got to run it!! :2thumbs:

I would also double check the battery or have it tested as well as charging system.
Battery is NEW, installed when starter was changed, checked voltage when I got home had 13.66, bike not running, so bike is charging. I also keep the bike on a tender all the time. The lowest voltage dropped during diagnosing was 12.55.

This may seem obvious, but check that all you battery terminals are good and tight. Mine backed off just a little and I had the same problem as you. I now lock tite the bolts to the battery.

I feel you pain. I had to push mine home before as well. It is a little humbling to push a custom looking motorcycle down the road. lol

Wow, why not call progressive or have someone pick you up with a trailer?
Well, I knew if I could get to the grade in the road I could pop start it and would be home free!! No pun intended!

If for some reason that didn't work a trailer would have been next.

I had a situation early this summer of the old click, click too. Come to find out I had a bad circuit breaker that did not allow the charging system to put power back into the battery. Pulled the battery down. Part was $6.95 and I was back up and running again. Didn't even have to replace the battery. She took the charge by runnin the pup down the road for about 45 minutes.:2thumbs:

Yep it sucks pushing a chopper but my experience was the first time my daughter actually was in the seat driving it as I pushed down the side of the interstate.. Glad you made it home safely, that is the key thing to think about,,,
