I've been corresponding with seatmaker on getting a custom seat made and am thinking of getting the gel pak put in at the same time..... I have heard though that the gel pak has a tendency to show it's presence after time.... Is this true?

ChaCha by the way after hearing you talk about your XXXCarb I went ahead and ordered the all chrome one like yours after all. How did the dyno test work out?

Wouldn't you know it after ordering all this my big flat screen TV for the front room went out, so I had to go buy one of those today too!!!!!
:bang:

Come on Dow Jones LOL ---at least I don't have to get together with seatmaker until after he gets back from the Easyriders rodeo.

I haven't heard anything about being able to see the gel pad over time.

I prefer the dry polymer over the gel pad and I've had both.Seems the gel gave me hotspots on my ass and after a few months the leather was wrinkled where the gel pad was. But I know seatmaker does great work and I had a local upholstry place do mine so maybe he has a better process

Sounds like Al's seat must of had the Gel on top of the foam and directly under the leather or vinyl covering.

High End puts the gel first then 2 layers of different density foam and then the cover.

Of course, that still may be the best advice!!

I did run across another alternative at a biker store recently - it was a can of "anti-monkey-butt powder." No kidding! :loony:

I'll be sending mine to Seatmaker soon. Thinking of having it redone with gel and Gray leather.

Any feedback on a design? I'd like to get something stitched on the seat and p-pad.

For your long rides, you can get gel pads to put on top of your seat, then remove them when your done if that helps. My father and I both have them, it makes for a great ride on them long trips, but keeps the original seat looking good. Google gel pads and you will find places that make them. I can get you the web site if you want also where we got ours.

Al,
Sounds like Seatmaker does the gel the right way, I am thinking of going that route.
edited: I forgot that you already did...

Oscar,
Ask Seatmaker about the 'gator seat we saw at Arts Beats and Eats.
It would be perfect for a Louisiana Boy like you :2thumbs:
and WTF play some Molly Hatchet in that daily sound file...

Cutter,
Last time I really looked at my seat it was coming in from the rain and you could kinda see the outline of the gel, I'll let you know when I pick it up tomorrow how it looks..

I have a seatmaker seat and was one of the first to do the gel pad. I love it, he put it under a layer of foam so you can't see it. His work is nice, so nice that people often ask about the seat first...then the typical "did u build that"

I ordered a custom seat from BD with Gel and red flame stitching to match the paint. Didn't do that well as far as comfort. Took the seat to a local seat guy and we pulled the cover off it was all foam with a order number written on it that "with Gel" but there was no gel pack.

The local seat guy put gel in it and its all better. I say yes to the Gel.

Has any body done anything with a air pack?

Remember Cutter, those guys paid around $2500- to $3000- a piece for those Gator seats. Although I haven't really played around with the real stuff, for that price, I'll do everyones.:D
