To Chrome or not to Chrome

Hi. I was considering chroming the wheels on my 2007 big dog k9, but am now thinking twice since I have seen and heard too much with repect to flaking. A very honest mechanic who works on my bike discouraged me not too, after which he showed me a small graveyard of expensive chromed wheels that did not hold up well. Billet aluminum may be more difficult to clean, but I stay on top of mine; and, billet aluminum is much more forgiving than chrome, in that a good aluminum polish such as Mother's can buff out small abrasions whereas with chrome, you're screwed! Any thoughts on this? Thanks so much--Brock.

Chrome is sweet -- unless you want to RIDE the bike. Though in reality, I've heard good and bad. The folks I know with chromed wheels really don't ride much.

Found out recently that Brown's isn't chroming wheels anymore. Reportedly they said it's because there are too many variations in wheels these days. Local mechanic said it was the return rate was too high...either way, they've stopped.

Have you considered a good powdercoat?

I went ahead and put some Zoop seal on my rims. Works GREAT and no more polishing.

Chrome won't get you home!!! It might get you laid !!!

(Chicks usually don't know the difference between polished and chrome plated anyway!!!):D  :D

I got mine on ebay... just watch them... they have expiration dates.

You will have to pull your rims to do this..

After you polish the shit out of the them like you never had before then clean them with their special cleaner.

And be carefull when appling the sealer... put it on so little that you don't even think you got it on.

Personal opinion of course but i could not stand to have to polish my wheels and pulley anymore so i went with chrome. Too many busted knuckles and shit from polishing. Now just hit them with non ammonia based glass cleaner and a paper towel and bright and shiny.

Semi who is working on your bike? If you havent heard Full House Cycle in Winchester has decent labor rates and are real good people, they do great work. Everybody that I have sent there has been happy. I dont live to far from you in MD. Maybe we could hook up for a ride this year, I have a few other local Big Dog riders as well.

Hey whatever,
C&C in Severn MD does all my work. They have done me right so far. They are an authorized BD service center not a dealer so they dont have much in the way of BD Merchandise. I have ordered parts from Full house and they have been great, just a little to far to take for service or Warranty work. As for riding, for sure, we have a growing number of Dogs in Md and the newest being Red Bull. As soon as the weather changes we can all get together and ride. Do you go to any of the Cancun or Bernies Shows?
