Hello all, did a search on this but could'nt find anything. I have a 2004 BDM Chopper with a 250 rear tire(stock). Question is, when it comes time to replace the tire, can I go to the next wider size? What would it be, like a 280? Would it rub?

thanks, Paul

I dont think you will have any extra room to go to a 280. I don't have a chopper so not really sure but really doubt it. maybe some of the chopper guys will chime in on the topic.

If you could go to a 280 from a 240 you'd be looking at a little over 1.5 inches (1.5748). I doubt you have that much leeway.

the controlling factor would be "how much room do you now have between the tire and the belt?"

It'll fit just fine........... All you will have to do is remove the belt!

Zip, back to your tire. There is a thread here where someone put on a 260 Dunlop (search "Dunlop") in place of the 250 but had to shave down the tire or something like that. You don't have much room unless you convert to a chain drive.

Why would you want go wider your bike will handle much better with the 250. To make a small change like a 260 wouldnt be worth it IMO and to try and go wide like the 300 or bigger means major changes and lets face it a lot harder handling in the turns compared to your 250. My K9 had the 300 and it looks cool but it isnt easy to throw thru the twisties I'll tell you. My Road king handles like a sport bike after getting off the K9 with the shorter stance narrower rear and wider front tires.

tire

thanks for all of the responses guys! I'm not looking to do any mods just to have a wider tire, besides, I don't have the owners manual but I THINK I'll need the drive belt on a regular basis. :D

cYa!
