Tire Questions for Chopper

Sorry for asking such a basic question but, I did search and read until my eyes wanted to bleed. So... I'm looking for current insights on the best tire. The Chopper offers a more unque challange with so few options because of the rear being a 250. I've plowed through 3 Avon Cobras and am not at all satisfied with how quickly they wear out. Searching the forum, one says the Metzlers wear out quicker, then the next says the same of the Avon. And I don't see anything on the Dunlop which is the only other option. And of the posts I've found, they're years old.

So, please share your latest experiences/insights/knowledge on the subject.

Thanks to all in advance!

I run the Dunlop Elite 3 also, front and back. I think they work very well. I got about 6000 on the rear and probably 12000 on the front. I'll change the front with this rear this time could probably get more miles.

Here in Spain I have been recommended Dunlop .... most HDs & others is what they are running.... and a tat cheaper than Metzelers..

I will try them soon as I need a new rear tire...

I did a little research on Michelin, only a 240 but I believe very close to Avon 250 in width when in use. I am sure someone here can confirm. Have not heard good or bad about them. Will look into further when time for replacement. For what its worth.

Here are the specs for the Commander II in size 240/40R18:
(The Scorcher has the same specs and are put on Harley)

Static overall diameter = 25.55 inches.

In-use overall diameter = 26.10 inches.

Static width = 9.44 inches.

In-use width = 10.12 inches.

Preferred rim width is 8.50 inches.

The construction of the Commander II provides excellent stability for touring or two-up riding. The Scorcher 11 is designed for more "spirited" riding.

We appreciate your business and thank you for choosing Michelin.

Just noticed the front is Byply, and rear is a radial..

On a car that causes some odd things to happen.. (normally a radial in front with By ply dag tire in rear makes the ass sway ALOT. ha)

Franco....Dunlop does not make a 300mm rear tire. 250mm is the biggest they have
Damn! my Mechanic has not a clue then..... Thanks for the Heads Up! :2thumbs:

I will have to do some research.... I am not in a hurry, I can ride the rest of winter with the Avon.

thanks for all the input. I think I'm going to give the Dunlop a chance. I just know I'm done with the Cobra.

Again, thanks everyone!
