Tire problem

SO 2004 Chopper, RT frame.

bike came dulopos on it, Elite 3s. I like the tires. They need replacing. rookie mistake, and ordered new ones with out ACTUALLY verifying. bike has 240/40X18 on rear. NOT a 250.

From what I am reading the Dulops are wider them some for the same size. I either never read the size (highly doubtfull, or forgot i did)

My bike I had to redo and fix the inside fender wiring for the tail lights.... and I am almost 100% positive i cant go any bigger then the dunlop 240. having the 250 in person its going to rip all the wires out.

anyone else have that problem with the wires?

I have a 04 RT with the 250 Avon. I haven't had any issues.

FWIW, Replaced my Avon 250 with the Dunlop Elite 3 250 and I had to shave the left sidwall lip. It was just a tic too wide. I believe the Dunlops run on the wider side. I had it rub the fender wires right side too. I finally pulled it all apart and tweeked on it till everything fits with no rubbing anywhere. If your 240 just fits, 250 prolly not gonna work. Sell the 250 or see if a local shop would trade ya out? Good luck....

I got the tire place to refund me on the 250, and give me a shipping label back. and ordered a 240 from them

its goes against everything I know to go smaller/ not try. But after redoing those wires 2 times, and getting it right and all sealed up the last time, with no extra wire... ( I will have to rewire the whole fender next time). I don't want to mess that up.. and I have almost no clearance now. so screw it 240 it is, still looks wide and good and I never knew the difference.

I'm running a 240 on my chopper, because of that reason. no one will be able to tell the different. I just got Shinko, (how ever it's spelled), It doesn't have as wide of a side wall as other tires, so a 250 might work with them.

most tires are not exactly what they say they are. if you look up the spec sheet on the tires, more times than not, they will vary anywhere from 5mm undersized to 18mm oversized. so you may be getting a 240 that could really be a 255 or a 235. that is the reason you have to trim the edge of the metzeler 300 to keep from rubbing the belt.

Just a little FYI... I picked up an 1/8" thick spacer that I mounted between the hub and pulley on my '06 K9 to move the pulley out away from the tire in order to keep the belt from rubbing on a new Metzler 300 and it is working great. Although this will not help with the wire issue. Just a thought.
