Time for a new rear tire I think

Going on my third rear tire with 9100 miles now. First one had a plug in it and was changed at 3500. This lasted a little longer. I ordered a AVON COBRA R 300/35R-18 REAR TIRE FAT CUSTOM AV72 on Ebay for 239.95.
eBay Motors: AVON COBRA R 300/35R-18 REAR TIRE FAT CUSTOM AV72 (item 110273029851 end time Jul-31-08 19:14:42 PDT)
I thought it was spinning a little when it rained the other day..Go figure...
I havent figured out were the tire wear marks are yet:lol:

On a side note, it seems to be a little bit more worn on the left side of center as well. This must be contributed to the fact that the majority of the watering holes I visit are on the left side of the road. Left turn Clyde..

Yikes ... you go through some rubber there bud! I have 4,000 miles on mine and it still looks almost new!! I was thinking of trying a set of Metzlers when these go but so far its looking like I may get over 10K on these first. Good luck!!

That is the same place I bought my tire. You will like the new tread it does better on wet roads than the older tire tread.

I have 14,000 on my original rear and I still have better than 3/32 before the tread bar. I'm thinking my Venom will last for another 4000 miles at least. I did replace my front tire at 12,000 but that was due to my stupidity for not keeping an eye on my tire pressure. Ran the front one way low on air for way too long.

What are the chances that the frame/swing arm may not be true? Wouldn't that cause uneven wear?

Most all tires tend to do that.

It's due to roads not being exactly flat and the majority of the time your bike is actually leaning to stay straight.... also, left turns are always longer than right turns so the bike stays in a lean longer on a left turn. ( Unless you're Lee, then you just reverse the logic and make left right and, right left. ) :)

Every bike I've ever had has worn tires like that.

Had to replace my rear tire at 7000 miles....but compared to your rear tire I could have gotten a lot more miles out of it.

Went ahead and removed the tire/wheel from the frame tonight. Looked for a how too on the rear tire removal and alignment but really did not see anything. Looked at the manual and got the idea......I counted the number of turns when I removed the adjusters but I am open to suggestions on how to align this baby up when I put it back together. I will go to Harley and buy a belt tension gage.
I had a piece in the belt where it had been hit and cut or notched some. It did not go through but did not look inviting either.
I guess I need to break down the rim of the brake rotor and belt pulley and hubs tomorrow so the tire can be removed. I did read somewhere that the torque specs were higher than they should be and people were stripping the bolts. Seems like it was Raywood's how too on the front tire.
I already have some dyna beads to go back in
Thanks in advance for any wisdom....

Yeah the torque specs on the rotor bolts are too high in the manual... they say like 60# but really its more like 25#. I went with the german meathod on mine... "Gud n tite"... and don't forget the red loctite.

The belt looks like it could be replaced... but you'll have to pull the swingarm to do so.

To align it... measure from center of rear axle to center of swingarm pivit bolt. Then tighten up the belt tension, re check alignment and do the visual spin check while looking down the belt from pulley to pulley. Go forward and backwards... make sure the belt don't track one way or the other too much.

I'm with GM -- change the belt since you're in there already. It don't look good and pulling the swingarm is pretty simple -- gives you a chance to check the bushings anyway.

Good luck!
