Thunderheart igntion.

Okay got the TH programable igntion installed. Bike fires and runs. Nee to correct for the RPM's (select 0 or 1). Had to buy a cable adapter from Radio Shack to hook up the TH cable to my computer.

Question for the wise. The adapter from Radoi Shack came with a disc with I installed called" Gigaware USB-A to Serial Cable. Hooked everything up and with the biked key switch on or off my computer doesn't find the igntion.

The only thing I didn't do was hit the run button (just thought of that). As mentioned in a earleir post I lost the simple instructions.

Bike sounds good just RPMS half as much

? Do you see the light on the ignition come on when you hit run?. If so you are probably getting the dreaded software or hardware can't be found notification. I have the same problem almost everytime I hook it up. But after a few tries something clicks and it works.

Hey V, how's the performance with that thunderheart? I'm thinking about going with one too. Did you notice a difference? Thanks.

Mine seems to be doing good. Pulls better at 2500 rpm and just sounds like it chugging better. Do need to mess with the mixture and idle a bit. but the lsat few times i have been out had to buy no name fuel and that seems to make a diff. i try to run Exxon as much as possible and only from pumps tha have a seperate hose for each Ocatane grade. but sometimes ya have to take whats available.

Anyway pleased with the ignition upgrade:2thumbs:

Yep, my main problem was when I first installed the igntion, I had to reset the tach/rpms. Cut on the key but forgot to hit the "run" button on the handle bar controls. the run button must be activated to set the igntion.

Can you just install the TH ignition or do you have to use a computer and the disc that came with the ignition?

You can install the igntion and if you're lucky the RPM's will be correct. If not you will need to install the disc in a computer that you can hook to the new igntion to correct the RPM's. Its easy cause there are only 2 options on the RPM's. If yours is incorrect you just have to select the other option. Either need a laptop or have to bring the bike in to house to the desk computer if you got to make the change. The igntion has to have power from the bike to recognize any changes that you do with the computer.

I have a little different issue, but on the same item. My bike seems to get to high rpm's faster now, do I need to switch to a more aggressive setting?

when you hook it up it will typically read RPM's at either half of what they are

Example: bikes at idle 1000 rpm and the tach will read 500 rpm

Or: Bikes at idle 1000 rpm and tach will read 2000 rpm

In the first senario the tach will look like the bikes is not reving up. in the second senario it will show rpms at twice what they really are.

Each can be corrected by the tach/rpm setting with a computer.

V, what setting are you at on the TH?

Any others feel free to chime in.....not sure if I should set at 2 or 3.

Yes, pretty much plug and play...have to adjust tach with a computer.

Use the advanced search.....Thunderheart 5012
Jake has a great write up on it.
