Thunderheart ignition problems

Sorry folks, it's me again. Finally found out why my scoot was dying. Washed and polished the scoot for a poker run on sat. After I was done cleaning(Friday) I drove it around the block. Woke up sat morning and it fired right up but was running rough. Never runs rough. It either runs or doesn't. Let it warm up and drove about 1 block and it died. During this block it was still running rough. Turned key off, hit run then start. Scoot would crank over very strong but wouldnt start. Did this several times and still wouldn't start. Pulled the seat off and watched the ehc and thunderheart ignition lights. Turned key on, hit run and the red light on the ehc comes on. Good so far. Hit the start button and the no red light flashing on the thunderheart ignition box. Bad thing. Waited a few minutes and finally scoot fired up(red light on ignition) came on at that point. Rode 135 miles without any problems that day. Scoot never even tried to die. This has been a problem since ive owned the bike, several months. I've posted this same problem b4 without knowing about the ignition light not coming on. Battery, vr, stator, connections near the ehc, ignition module and other things have been checked. Took the vent out of the gas cap too. Usually when the scoot dies (always when riding) it will fire up on it's own after I coast in gear. Sometimes it fires up immediately and other times i have to stop and cycle the key and wait a few minutes. Used dielectric grease on all connections. The have wiggled the key with scoot running and it doesnt kill the engine until it is suppost to.
Thought maybe water or humity but this has happened without bike being around water for weeks.
1. What all is in line up to the ignition module that I need to check?
2. What exactly does that red light mean when it flashes?
3. What am I missing?
Don't want to get stranded cause of something stupid. Thanks again for the help guys. As always u guys rock and I appreciate the help that y'all have giving me so far. Btw no matter what y'all say, good or bad, I ain't going anywhere. Lol.

It sounds similar to the issue I'm having right now. Make sure your Thunderheart ignition tests good. I just ordered a Dyna to replace mine so I'll be able to tell you in a week or so when it gets here.

I have a 2006 K9 so my ignition may be different. Yellow and blue lights on the ignition module flash when the front and rear plugs are fired. The red flashes with the input from the crank sensor.

Oops you have a 04' I don't know if that 5012 will work or not. Forget my advice until someone with more knowledge comes along.

you have the original EHC i have an updated one and your thunderheart is the original too

When I had trouble with mine quitting, I took a heat gun to the ignition modual and when I tried to start it when it was hot none of the lights would light up but when it was cold it would fire right up. Replaced my ignition modual and have had no problem since. I have the Dyna 2000i ignition in my 107 S&S engine.

Here's my 04 Thunderheart and EHC. Look anything like this?
Dennis, that is exactly what I've got. Is that thunderheart module that we have original or aftermarket. The only problem that I can see is that when the bike won't fire the red light won't come on on the ignition module. I guess i need to start at the module and work my way from there. Is there a way to test the module. I would just buy a module but don't want to waste the money if that ain't the problem. Thanks again guys. My first question is, what exactly does that red light mean when I press start and it flashes?

I'm no expert in electronics like some on here are but here's what I've picked up. When you turn your ignition switch on you should get an amber flash from the "Main power" light on the EHC. Refer to the link of the EHC lights that I sent you. When you press Run on your "Engine Stop" switch you should get a red reply from the "Ignition" light on the EHC.
If it's working you should also get a flashing red light from your Thunderheart ignition module.

I'm assuming you're in the same boat that I am:
1. Starter engages when you press the START button
2. You've checked the spark plugs and are sure you aren't getting spark
3. You're getting 12v to the coil

Now you need to test your cam sensor for signal. Run DRBarnhart's Ignition Cam Sensor Test:
Disconnect the cam sensor from the ignition module. Take out your trusty multimeter and set it to the RX1 scale.

1. Now while touching the sensor backing plate with the negative meter lead touch the positive meter lead on each of the three wires of the sensor connector (red, black, & green). If you get continuity from the backing plate to any of them the sensor is bad. If it passes the first test...
2. With your meter still at the same settings touch the positive meter lead to the green wire and the negative meter lead to the black wire. If you get an "open" it's good. (Any resistance is "bad)
3. Then take the positive meter lead and touch the black sensor wire while touching the negative meter lead to the green wire. In this case an "open" is bad. A reading somewhere around 300 - 750 Kohms is what you're looking for.

The Thunderheart Ignition Module and your cam sensor are 2 parts to your ignition module and are replaced together. I haven't looked closely at replacing with a new Thunderheart brand because I couldn't get much tech help with their company.

Here's a few alternatives if you need to replace yours:
Thunderheart Crank Sensor Ignition
Dynatek 2000I ignition Module d2ki-1p
Crane Hi-4 Ignition Module timing
Dyna 3.0 coils 0604-1
Timing cam HD part no. 32402-83

Did you take the cam cover off and inspect the module? Mine was doing the same thing and when I looked it was obvious what the problem was! Fixed with a new ign module!
