so is a thunderheart module, the EHC? or not?

Then between the frame rails, in front of motor, there is a chrome box with wires coming out. What is this? I though that was the ignition module...

That's the VR, Voltage Regulator... it charges the Battery....

ah that makes more since. thank you very much.

These thunderhearts are not the problem and pretty decent to keep if the bike runs out good with the tune that's in them?

The link above show it looking like

This is what the part I am talking about looks like. maybe just an older model? this is the only computer thing i have, and the Voltage regulator.

Yup, this is the (Ignition Module) stock (EPA) one... The programmable ones have different settings to advance the timing, etc. (as per links above).

OK THanks you, putting it all together now.

The bike came with a EHC, that sucks and this thunder heart. its not adjustable, and factory timing tables.

My bike was strait wired to eliminate the EHC, but I sill have to have a ignition module, and they reused the factory TH ignition.

a upgrade is the aftermarket version that has settings. like the other picture. any problems Out of the factory thunderheart? other then just not the performer like its aftermarket counter part?

Cool deal, this answeres my questions.

I Dont have to buy anything, just need to rewire in a neater fashion and add the stuff I want back on the bike. I am anal about shitty wireing, and things not tucked away... SO I will address that once back. But at least I know what the hell I am looking at now.

The factory TH does have a plug in, can you not make internal adjustments with software? wont have the settings on a dial, and stuff but Maybe you can change the factory timing with a laptop?

I am not sure about your year... but my 2006 was locked by Factory... I could not access it like I do on my programmable one.

Maybe someone else will know? I would love to be able to access my stock one so I could read how many hours, rev limit hits, etc are in there!

I will call THunderheart today when they open. I would think with a data port, there is away to get inside the factory one, and load new firmware/ or file, or change it. Now its not adjustable i know but you could still take out the EPA stuff and set the tables to what ever say setting 4 is on there adjustable one and be better off.

Who knows I will try and find out though. other wise thank you for the help again. I hate being the new guys asking all these questions, I am not a newb to motors, computers or anything just have a learning curve from cars to the bike.

like the voltage reulator.. WTF i should have known that.. ha

FWIW.... Doug at C.A.Jones still has the factory software for the TH. However he hasnt played with it for quite a while. I told him I will be the guinea pig. As soon as I can get my tanks painted and relined I'll run the Dog by and let Doug play.

Harry,

I do have the TH Software too, the problem is the Module itself... the stock module is locked by Big Dog Factory.

If Doug can access the "BDM" Modules I will be sending mine to you so you guys can read & print the info in it for me?

I can see BDM doing this... BUT if we have a data port, and the software. I would think we might not be able to read it... BUt you might can FLASH IT and erase whats there, THUS loading a fresh copy of firmware, and leaving it unlocked, and setting it how you want.....

I dont know this, but thats how most these type things work.

Who is this person? and do we need to mail him one? or what?

Lets get this figured out ha, I want mine unlocked, so I can tune it! Have a local bike dyno, between this, unlocked, software, and some jetting

set the bike up perfect, and make some more power.

My reason for changing the ignition is that the timing curve was built before the ethanol in the gas. You really need a new timing curve after the fuel change.

I'd like to know as well.

As for the TH stock, I have an 03 107 with .600 cam and a davinci carb and it pulls as hard as I need it to. No issues with the TH ing module.
