thunder mountian Keystone vs BD K9

Thinking of a chopper now....I saw a very nice 08 Thunder mountian Keystone and really liked it...but didn't like the price....good grief....lots of loot...but mostly arley parts...you think he RB K9 is just as good or better????.....what's ya'll think between the 2???....

I have an 08 road glide now....I was planning on putting 12" wild-1 apes, j-brake foot pegs and tall boy seat....to try and get the chopper feel because I'm 6-5....think is posible to have the best of both worlds or just go with the chopper..????

They are good bikes and I do remember seeing quite a few and finally decided on the K9. Have since visited a few HD dealers and the more I see the TMC I am glad I selected the K9.

Engine is a BIG diff - you have a choice STD HD or Jim's - hear conflicting opnions regarding Jim's GOOD and BAD....Warranty is another issue as compared to BDM - especially with the Jim's motor....The Engine and Tranny are attached at the hip just like a traditional HD...the upper engine mounts are questionable....I personally do not like the eletrical/guage panel mounted on the tank...If you like the chrome wheels, they are available as an option on the BDM's. You have a few options with the front fork and head light with the TMC but I still prefer the BDM look. Have not ridden one so can't really comment on the ride...and finally when it comes to $$$$$ it's BDM all the way.

I here ya Staffy on the motors....the TMCC comes with HD 110 screaming eagle with 6spd Baker trans...the ride is very nice...pretty smooth...the factor I guess is being able to get it worked on for service at Harley dealers....BD dealers are few and far inbetween here in MD. But the big thing for me is the price...there very costly...42,000 for the keystone...crazy...RED

Thunder Mountains are nice but WAY OVER PRICED for what they actually are. Take a close look at fit and finish between TM and BDM and you will see a big difference! Cannot go wrong with a Dog !!

Besides you cannot have two "Hogs" in the garage your better off with a "Hog" and a "Dog"!!!

I know a guy who bought this bike. they have alot of issues and they
made the guy get a video camera to prove his complaints, stay away from
these machines for a few years,or at least till they get the kinks worked out.

keep looking red--we are getting to the time of the year when you should get a real deal on ebay. with the economy in the shitter, i am thinking there should be some deals to be had when the cold winds blow.
the keystone is a lot of money--wow.
i still love my k-9 and would buy another--would consider a slightly used, deeply discounted k-9 with some warranty left if i were looking.
i am amazed to see situations where somebody walks into a dealership, plunks down $30k plus and never really rides the bike.

Do the Thuinder Mountains still have that funky looking tank console? It's a Harley console, but looks "unfinished" as they left out the bridge plate down to the seat. And why would you want a Harley Twin-cam "noisy-valve-chatter" 103ci engine when you could have an S&S 117"? Believe me, I have both...and the S&S is far superior - less "chatter", more power!

I here ya man....I am NOT buying a thunder Mountian...there out of there minds.....way to much loot.....
I luv the look and design of the BD K9 and Ridgeback...and I do like the feel of the Baker trans...very rugged and solid...117 motor is awesome...fast but solid...

BUT, help me here...

I'm still having delima's over selling my road glide for the Dog...can't afford 2...luv the Gilde but man the feel and look of the K9 gets my blood moving...and that's what it's all about....

Lots of stuff on the Glide to luv....CD/Radio, ABS, Cruise Control, Alarm system, Fuel guage, Windshield, highway pegs, bags....and on and on,....but can't get away from that thought of the pure feeling of the BD K9 motorcycle, the ride...the looks, the Chopper feel, the speed, the large feeling of the bike, the coolness of it all.....anyway here's where I stand....what to do......you can have all the bells and whisles but if your not happy riding it what good is all that stuff??....Was thinking of adding lots of things to the glide to make it the way I want it....like Apes,seat,pipes,upgrade the motor to SE, foot pegs instead of floorboards, but it's all going to cost money...so here I sit....

If you're going to have just one bike, here are my thoughts after reading your responses... Unless you like listening to tunes while you ride and do much (if any) 2-up riding with a partner, I'd go with the K9. Get a good gel-padded 2-up seat with a tall sissy to strap a tall T-Bag onto for hauling luggage & leaning back against, and get a small detachable windshield for the long hauls. It's apparent that's the bike you're into, with heart and passion, so why not go with it? God gave us FREE WILL and FREEDOM OF CHOICE! You can always change again down the road, if you want. Until then, I'd enjoy the K9! Take care, and Ride Safe brother! :2thumbs:

Tell me something, is there suecurity with the BD??...and can you lock the forks???....and is there a reserve on the gas tanks?

They were on my list and the BDM dealer where I purchased my 2007 Mastiff had a number of TM bikes so I could compare. Yup, dam expensive for a harley with some chrome and big rear tire, fit and finish sucked, wires all over the place and it wasn't much better than my softtail.

No lock on the forks, but I use a Disc Lock. works great (just don't forget its on there) and yes it has a reserve.

My security, when I'm out overnight somewhere, is a front brake lock (from BDM), a bike cover (from BDM...outta sight-outta mind), and a Performance Center Model 627, 8 shot .357 Magnum (from Smith & Wesson..:lol: ).

Yes - reserve is good for anywhere from 5 - 20 miles...better be sure before you put your faith in it on the line, though.

Again, the best things you can invest in for protection for your Dog is a front brake lock and a 'non-decriptive' (no logo) quality bike cover that straps together underneath to keep it from flying off in case of a wind/rain storm. Out of sight...out of mind!" :up:
