I broke my throttle cable last Sunday. The cable I broke is the throttle cable and not the return. I put the a one on but adjusting it has kicked my a** completely. I thought I would figure it out and so far I haven't. If any one has the basics down for adjusting the throttle and return cables, please put me on the right path. I read the threads on this site it last night but could not find the one that explained in in laman's terms.

Any assistance will be appreciated.

Run the adjusters all the way out so you have maximum slack, then just start tightening up one a little, then the other, until you pull all the slop out of the throttle. I'd replace both cables while you have it all apart. Basically you got the top threaded portion of the adjuster, and the lower "female" part. Loosen the lock nut, and unscrew the female off the male all the way. This makes the cable longer and maximizes slack. Do this for both cables, then start turning the female part back on, a little at a time on each cable. As you do this the cables will tighten, and the slop will start to come out of the throttle. Once you get it where you want it (I like about 1/8" of play) tighten the lock nut back down on both cables. Thank Gas for the pic.

I think you need to turn the barrells all the way in for slack and turn them out to tighten up the cable.

I loosen the return (turn the barrel all the way in) and adjust the throttle pull cable first and when it's where you want it then do the return. Lock them down and you should be golden.
Watch those little ferrels inside the controls. They like to pop out if you have too much slack in there.

yeah those ferrules are slippery little fuckers. I dropped one down inside my bars once. Better than being lost on the garage floor though!
