Believe me, if I had knowledge as a mechanic I would not hesitate a second to buy it and do everything myself, my concern is if local mechanics usually screw up these bikes having knowledge about bikes, I would need to start becoming a mechanic from a scratch
If you purchase a shop manual for this bike 2006 - k9 I believe you will find that most of the work is not that difficult you'll be able to do your own maintenance without too much trouble and save a ton of money. It's not that shops can't work on this bike because they can but I found out unfortunately that there aren't a ton of really good cycle mechanics out there it's hard to find one not just for the K9 but for bikes in general. And like others have said there's videos on here there's videos on YouTube, there's a lot of help on this site to help you. One of the nice advantages that the 06 k9's have is that their carbureted not fuel injected, so they do not have as many electronics as some of the others which I personally prefer. I happen to live in Pennsylvania area down near the border PA and Maryland, do not know where you live but if you're anywhere near me I'll be glad to give you some advice and help from time to time. I do have plans to retire to Florida hopefully within the next few years and the same would apply there. Like I said before good luck and I personally do love the my K9

Welcome from North Central Mass. The bike looks really nice. I bought my 06 K-9 in 2017 and have no regrets. What the others say about working on your own bike is recommended as most mechanics have no interest. Ask the person that you are purchasing the bike from the name of the the shop and if you need to have it worked on and you are uncomfortable then maybe you my want to use them as well as they may have history on the bike.
You may want to ask the present owner if he was on the forum, which would mean that he has most likely asked for some help in the past. Most items you will need are available through sources on the site and we can direct you to the right places. .If you take care of the bike, most likely the bike will be your pride and joy. Good luck with your decision.

Leo, I bought my 07 bulldog about 6 years ago and yes it had some bugs to work through, had replaced most of the ignition system, and a couple of the little things. But like most of said everybody on this site is really really a big help and I've learned so much about working on the bike myself from all the help you get from this site. And what's really cool is the stuff that you've learned you pass on to someone else when they have a similar problem as I've been able to do and I feel good about it. And there's nothing like the ride it is incredible and the bike has plenty of power even if you leave it stock. Do your homework but like anything that is 15 years old is going to have some kinks here and there regardless of what it is. Good luck on your purchase

When we're you on the tail of the dragon? If it's rt.16 between Marion and Tazewell, VA you rode right by my house in Marion.

I'm not sure where you're talking about the tail of the dragon is route 129 and it really runs between North Carolina and Tennessee, deals Gap is the little motorcycle resort where it all starts at. If you look up the Fontana dam it's about 8:10 miles from there if you can't find deals yet but no we were there from September 9th to the 12th we went up for the motorcycle rally in Maggie valley called thunder and the Smokies. We go every year for the spring and the fall rally we skip the summer one as we're always somewhere else.

I had a senior moment. I mistook the tail which is the Deels Gap for the Back of the Dragon which is route 16 from Hickory NC all the way into West Virginis going through Marion Virginia. I got excited when I saw the pics. Sorry for the brain fart.
