That's all you hear in the news these days, unfortunately all the gloom and doom is affecting peoples buying habits...If there was a more upbeat responce from the media I think things may be different..Just a thought.

It's a damn shame the media won't put more positive news out there. Plenty of good is happening it just won't get as good a rating. Everything’s about the almighty dollar.:bang:

Hey Mad Dog...Maybe you can share some of those positive links and post them here so we all can get that "Warm and Fuzzy" feeling..!!!! I have a good friend working for a moderate sized car dealership and he told me, for the month of Oct, the dealership, not him, sold ONE...count 'em...ONE car.!!!

Things are not good.

Hippy, I did not say things were good. My point is in these times it would be good for morale to hear some upbeat news. It's all how you look at it. One could report negatively and say it's a shame so many people were looking for food or one could look at the positive side that someone more fortunate was willing to share. It's all about how it's reported.

Dog,

I think this article really meant to show some good in people, but it just turned to the sour note because of all the need in this country. The good hearted farmers who opened their fields to crops that would just be plowed under...to the fact that there is a great need for food...account there ARE hungry people in our very own nation. It would be a good time this holiday season to take a box or can of food and drop it in one of these local food banks barrels. It is sad, but it is a fact, that we can either close our eyes to, or do something to help. First Sunday next month, I will participate in a "Toys for Tots" toy run in an effort to help some poor, needy youngster have something under the Christmas tree he or she can be proud of.!! I think after reading that article, I'll dig a little deeper and do more for someone less comfortable than I..!!

Happy Holidays dude..!!!

The media is crippling our society. Attitude is everything. All I hear from friends, clients..etc is how bad it is. I'll say it again.....do the best with what you have. It's just not that bad. I can name 100's of scenarios in recent history that should give you a warm fuzzy feeling. This is going to be a huge lesson for everyone. Save some money...don't expect life to be so damn easy all the time. We have lived in a pretty sheltered world for quite some time. All good things come to an end. If we could get someone in office that tells the damn truth for once, things would be different. A politician has to lie his ass off because everyone wants the easy way out. Bull shit I say. Things aren't going to be easy for a while. Whine all you want but we have to make it happen. Sometimes you need to be motivated and now is that time.

Media is foreclosing now???

Vegas......PLEASE.........Share those Warm and Fuzzy scenarios for us..!!! For some of us, we are doing OK. But for hundreds, maybe thousands of other folks, things are bleak. You say do the best with what ya got??? Well, tell those people who have basically NOTHING...homes foreclosed, cars repo'ed......collection agencies hounding them every day for money to pay those overdue bills. The media is just showing those of us more fortunate how the rest of the country is trying to survive. I am not going to get in a pissing match here, I just posted an article about needy Americans. Maybe you and I and some others on here were smart enough to put back a $$ or two, and control our credits cards, but don't close that comfortable eye to all thats happening around us. I am not the media, but I will tell ya...things are not good.....for most.!!!! I'd make a bet, there are members of this forum that know exactly what I am talking about.

I see that side of the coin also....we have the highest foreclosure rate in the country and I am in the business. I just don't like spreading more negativity around. The media does a fine job of that. At least the article you posted was a good deed by the farmer.

Here are some instances.....

You could have been working in the world trade center on 9/11.
storming the beach at normandy
serving in Vietnam
born before the invention of the automobile
living in a hut
spending the last 3 years away from your family in Iraq
living under a dictatorship
have no running water

The place I work went from 50+ people to 13....

I know I'm on the chopping block.....

Things have got to get better....Right?????

I wish I had a time machine and could go back to a time where life was perfect....NO ...wait....life has never been perfect..!! Oh well, I'm gong to the store, if I can find one still open, and buy me a pair of them there rose colored glasses(Made in China) you must be wearing.!!!! :2thumbs:

The point was simply that this isn't the first and it won't be the last hurdle this nation or world encounters. I'll leave it at that.

I agree with Old Hippy on this.... I wrote the following in a different forum but here it goes. Just my opinion and what wall street has done for us blue collar workers like myself and my retirement money, if any will be left at all...

With the way I see the economy going it is not going to recover anytime soon. Many people are and going to lose jobs, houses, etc etc. The amount of losses thru the "Toxic paper" wall street created is in the Trillions. I read a few months back that the total value of all the world markets together was 50 Trillion. The amount of "Toxic paper" wall street has leverged itself along with the rest of the world is 500 TRILLION! I do not know where or if we can print out the money fast enough to do anything (70's style Inflation anyone?) but I do know that I as many people out there are in need to preserve their retirement money (unless already lost in the market) and or need money now.
A few years ago I read an aticle from John Crudele on how to use the retirement money as a fiscal tool. I know alot will say do not touch it, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Some are saying we will probably be in a worse depression than the great one. Time will tell. All I know is that "they" have been saying that the economy and banking system has been sound for the past year and then all of a sudden they come with some "new Bad news". Give me a break! I read a book last year called the Trillion dollar meltdown that said this would happen. And they could not see it? Just like Lehman Bank kept on saying all was well before they melted down!
So, you want them to keep your money and lose it? Or do you want to take a stand and hopefully allow us to place it where we think it should be?
And yes Obama, mentioned something about retirements, but in his plan you have to pay taxes and only take out a max of $10k. It was submitted to both parties months ago as you will read. I say whoever wins should use this idea!
So please take sometime to read it and of you like what you read please pass it on. I am sick and tired of losing money. They all say long term? Sure so they can use your money and lose it.
I liked the idea so much I made a site it with the authors permission of course. USING RETIREMENT SAVINGS AS A FISCAL TOOL

I have to agree with the media crap. If the news would stop the gloom and doom people would stop selling off stock. People would not be so afraid to spend money. You tell the nation that it is going to crash so everyone stops spending so the markets start to fumble so companies start laying people off... Very vicious cycle.

Well that would be fine and dandy if the people had the money to spend. Most people used their houses as ATM's and overextended themselves into buying with plastic things they cannot otherwise afford. Most houses are in a negative equity and most people have no savings. Now how does the saying go? The chickens are coming home to roost? The bubble has collapsed. The expansion will have to follow an equal contraction to fix things and no matter how much money the fed pumps to save these cripples wall street banks, it will not make it right. A free market should allow iself to clean out the "bad" businesses. Just like nature wipes out the weak, so does the free market clean the toxic ones. The way they are doing it will only prolong the pain and sufering. And guess who will have to carry the burden. Us taxpayers who are barely making ends meet to begin with.
