Just want to give some feedback about the fantastic work Curtis is doing when working on your bike; beside all the contributions he is doing on this forum.
I had on and off some problems with starting my K-9, had to change batteries about every 15 months or so. So I reviewed the forum about the batteries best suited for the dogs. Despite the pros and cons of price and the fact that the battery is still debated as it is relatively new, I decided to go with the Antigravity Lithium ion battery. I went with the whole package Curtis recommended, including the CompuFire 40amp 3 phase charging system and the electrical/charging monitor.
Further I needed a new front tire and complete oil service. And then, heck, I decided why not add the LED headlight bulb (as my regular ones never last that long with all the vibration).
Curtis did all this work perfectly, but here is where a great mechanic adds great value.
Curtis installed the electrical/charging monitor system below the odometer, well hidden, with the reflection of the signal LED light clearly visible on your gas tank - brilliant!
Front tire came with dyna beads in it - what a difference it makes.
While installing the battery, LED light bulb he noticed that the wiring done by the previous mechanic (when I replaced the EHC with the PDM) was a huge mess (the cables were too long and the PDM moved itself and rested on the starter and transmission....). He shortened the cables and properly secured and tightened up everything around the battery. Now it looks like a "Lexus" cabling.
Other things he noticed my previous mechanic (a custom bike shop) did not address, despite that I brought him the full BD K-9 manual and the pointed out 2,500, 5,000 and 10,000 service checks I requested him to do).
- no fork oil left on one side and the other side was basically caked up. I needed to replace the forks as they were now scratched.
- it seems only the regular oil change was done but not the transmission or primary oil change by the previous mechanic.
- the fork stem nut set screw was missing and the fork stem nut was about to fall out. Fixed with proper Loctite.
- when installing the tire he noticed that the left bushing seal was at an extreme angle and not pressed in completely. Caliper was out of alignment with one shim missing....fixed it and new brake pads for both wheels.
- ....and many more small things he saw and fixed.
I did the work about 3 weeks ago and have taken the dog out for several runs with about 500 miles. I am all smiles now. She runs like a fine tuned organ. The LED light is amazing, the dog starts every time and it seems, since he tuned it I get better mileage. (did 150 miles today when I hit the reserve).
It takes me about 3 hours to get to Curtis' place, but heck, well worth it for the peace of mind and safety. I really appreciate the knowledge, fair price, honesty and professionalism of Curtis - Tks Curtis, you just added another loyal customer.:up::up:
