The new chopper look

I might start building those if they really are getting those prices for them. Take a stock Harley and modify it with a bunch of China made bling bling, how hard can it be?

 Well, since you are near by you can come over and help me with my Harley project and see. Got it all painted and even though I test fitted everything before hand some things don't want to go back together. It's not that hard but a PIA. Had the tank painted beautifully hung up and the sucker came down on the concrete floor. Another 2 days of work and $60 in paint.

The cost of the parts are unreal and fiberglass "tins" and fenders take a lot of prep work. I'm still itching from a few days ago when I cut a side cover to fit. All my fiberglass body parts came from the USA and a few from Miami which I'm not quite sure about. I think my neighbor brought the American flag with him when he moved here.

All in all it's a changing world and I like to see new and inventive builds going on. I hate the "look at my stock Harley bagger" look and the "bobber" look that everyone now thinks is new...

The big front wheel isn't my style but the rest looks cool. I would rather see them raked with a 21" on the front. I doubt they will get what they are asking for but sooner or later they will sell. I think we have seen the era of old school choppers come and go... :(

it's for the generation that rode Big Wheel's as kids!
Looks just as silly.

All is needs is an annoying sound (like the big wheel on concrete - hated that when I was in my apartment)

All valid points but I'm not so convinced that they are easy to sell. I'll be keeping a close eye on it though. I don't have any issues working with fiberglass....

The reason I even started the Harley bagger project was on CL there were a couple custom FLH bikes with mild mods. Nothing radical, stretched bags, tank, low seats, custom front wheel but a 2005 sold for $14k when most 2005's sell between $7 - $8k. Another 2009 sold for $18k. I see the same stock FLH's on CL month after month not selling but the custom ones sell quick.

So... Why not pick up a $5k -$6k FLH, tear it down and sell the stock parts on CL (which I did and get over $1k back) and then put in $3k and some labor and sell it for a $3k - $6k profit?

I paid $5k for the bike and sold the stock parts for $1,112 so far so I have less than $4k in it. I bought $3,110 worth of parts and paint so I'm right at $7k invested plus my time. If I can sell it for $12k then I will get $5k for my time which is about 80 hrs. That's $62 an hr.... Even if it sells for $10k I still make $37.50 an hr. for having some fun and the $$ is all under the table...

If this goes well I will do around 4 bikes a year for the fun of it and each one will get easier and easier to do. Since you are talented in this area and we live in FL (riding all year around) I'd think about it.
